Axopar 37XC review: Is this the ultimate paddleboarding/adventure boat?

There is a rather splendid video in MBY now with Jack giving paddle boarding a shot off the Needles.

Given the week before was a glorious heatwave in the UK, the fact it was pouring with rain and awful visibility doesn't really do this boat justice. Running down Southampton Water alongside them at 40 kts, nothing unsettles this hull. (Not that i am bias, maybe when we upgrade we will move up the range).

In fairness, Jack wasn't bad on the Paddleboard, a few falls missed the camera but I think there is a shot in the magazine of him heading in.

The day was a real eye opener for me and thanks to Jack and Axopar for allowing us along.

I've been posting on ybw for nearly 20 years. The last 2 years or so it feels like anything other than an Axopar is just a throw back.

Boating has changed so much.

This year you could have mistaken Colwell Bay for an Axopar distribution centre.

I don’t understand why they persist with such poor audio choices. It sounded awful during the commentary underway and makes you wonder how noisy the boat actually is

Just a little worried at 9 mins 20 seconds.
I wonder how close to Varvassi he and the chase boats were.
I've been in close there before but always worried about the wreck - its boilers break the surface at low water springs..

i was worried about that too so did a recce first before a fast run. Plenty of space inside the varvassi from where we were on the chase boat which was closer than the photo boat..

I didn’t tell Mrs Z1ppy until I was happy we were safe!

It’s a different product aimed ( climatically ) at a different audience.
Pancake flat and it porpoised on the overtaking shot .

@ BB - There are bays around Capri , Almafi that look like Itama dealer conventions btw .
You would fry like a chip with all that glass no airco and no forward opening glass when on the move in the med .

@ Mr Googler find a Axopar only marina .Just establish the rules of engagement mate


Apples and pears , but a nice “pear “ for N European waters .

For my sins, I used to run a Round the Island race for catamarans and I used to give the briefing.
The Varvassi was one of my favourite subjects in the briefing.
When racing round the island, you have to pass very close (IIRC within 100 yards) of the Needles lighthouse or go a lot further out.
I don't think you have to go as far as the cardinal buoy but much further out than you would think.
When racing, most boats opt to go very close in and some do hit the wreck each year.
In my last year of organising the RTI, I used my Sealine as a support boat - note MY Sealine.
That time, I went round the cardinal - I was taking no risks.

They are very nice looking - if I were going for one I'd go for the open version for use in majorca. I could be tempted to chop my windy 25 in for an axopar 28, but it wont fit on my mooring, so that makes it a non starter

Just a quick search on Youtube reveals this one.
This shows just how dangerous the wreck is.
I believe that the boilers actually break the surface on low water springs.

This video shows how tight to the lighthouse that you have to go to avoid the wreck.
The video also shows Goose Rock (seen when the drone flies backwards to the boats) a few metres to the Nort West of the Lighthouse.
So, when navigating that close, you have to be inside the wreck but outside Goose Rock.
Quite tricky and always a bum clenching time.
I've been through the gap on my Hurricane and my old Firebird a few times.
Also we took the race committee boat through with me navigating - it wasn't my boat so I was ?hitting it.

I would describe the boilers as awash at a low spring.
