I came accross in a yachting magazine some while ago a shading awning system - utilised fibreglass flexible poles to creat a polly tunnel type arrangement over the cockpit and coach house . I cant find it on the web and dont have access to my magazinesa at the moment.

can anyone perhaps shed some light on this product>?

many thanks

Andrew,

Many thanks thats - the shape - if i remember this version had fibreglass poles as opposed to being inflatible.. but im sure either would do the job.

CB,

C&J Marine can make awnings with fibreglass poles (as explained lower down this web page), but I believe their products are made to order, not off the shelf. From previous, painful experience, I know that C&J are good, but pricey. It may be worth holding on to see whether someone else can suggest the name of a ready-made product.

Good luck.

Nice idea. We use greenhouse shading over a couple of old fiberglass tent poles which slotted into the top of stantions either side. Works well and not only does it shade but wind can still get through.

You could try the local tip for an old dome tent and maybe use the fabric from that if you don't fancy greenhouse shading.

My cockpit cover converts into an awning using sectional fibreglass poles which I bought from Tiso. By memory £8 for a bag of half a dozen.
The poles need to be located in pockets sewn into the cover or they slide all over the shop. Its stood up to some strong winds, but sadly the arrangement has so far only provided shelter from rain - not sun!
