Awlcraft 2000 resilience to minor scratches….

We recently had our boat superstructure painted and even though she hasn’t yet made it’s way out of the shed the painted areas are already showing signs of wear and tear inn places from the yard’s people going on and off the boat, mainly working on the engine. Mostly minor stuff on the sides of the cockpit coaming but somewhat worried that if this is what it is like with minor use, what will it be like when used for, you know, actual sailing? Is this normal or something that was wrong when it was painted? Wrong temperature etc? Pretty disappointed, having spent a lot on the paint job….

I have had a new Awlgrip finish mark up from grit from a harbour wall off a fender and from a mooring buoy. Awlcraft 2000 is said to be softer. I fully believe (with no evidence at all except my own experience) that the finish hardens off over a much longer time than is admitted and I would protect it until well into the second season.

My superstructure has been painted with Awlgrip 2000. It's been nothing but trouble from the day it was applied and I got no satisfaction from the boatyard that applied it. It currently looks a mess. I'm unsure how to fix this so I would seriously advise not doing this.

We have conventional awlgrip. Not the 2000. It's as hard as hell. We also have clearcoat on top to give it additional UV protection. Pretty happy with it. The drawback is that repairs are not good/possible. I understand that the 2000 is buffable and repairable. I guess you can't have everything

My boat's topsides were sprayed with Awlcraft 2000 in 2016. Horrible stuff IMHO, marks and scuffs easily and almost impossible to polish out or touch up. I was quoted nearly £1000 to touch up a few small marks 'professionally'. - 'they will need to be resprayed and cut in' they said

My only experience with Awl products is with the 1990s Awlgrip: that was very glossy, very tough and I was told (but never had to) that you could touch up , flat and repolish if needed. Are the newer versions "degraded" due to removing some nasty but effective chemicals?

How many of the people who are having problems with awlcraft 20000 had their work done outside? The paint data sheet specifies a minimum ambient temperature for application of at least 13 degrees and that surfaces should be more than 3 degrees above the dewpoint. That surely precludes anything outside until the late spring at least?

Our Awlgrip was done in a heated spray booth. Temperature was turned up to 28degC during the curing process for 24hrs.
