Help with acronyms please, what do these mean:

AWB
SWMBO
etc

Any other commonly used acronyms could do with occasional definitions!

Thanks.

Average White Boat and She Who Must Be Obeyed. You need to remember MAB too. (Manky Auld Boat - usually of Scottish ownership)

AWB - average white boat..... well you learn something everyday. I had thought it was All Weather Boat, but I suppose this is what happens when trying to think up your own versions /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What is an average white boat 80% percent of boats are white what does the average look like is it power or sail.

SWMBO - the original

Rider Haggard's "She"

When you read SWMBO you should be aware that the writer has his tongue in his cheek, so a literal reading as "She, who must be obeyed" is naive. What he is actually saying is "I'm not really a misogynist, and my partner tolerates most of my foibles, but she sure as hell hates me spending so much of my time in chat rooms.

Literal reading of IMHO is equally, in my not-so-humble opinion, unwise. What it actually means is: why do I have to put up with such insufferable imbeciles?

Oh shucks - back to fixing the gutters before my lovely partner gets home.

NOW you know why we're not married - obey - yeh right !

We could just talk about Skippers and our recently returned neighbour who's been off to Scotland with his "chums" and is referred to as Admiral.

Let's get a bit more PC here ! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Never mind dear, you wouldn't understand. "Admiral" is a term of affection bestowed on a skipper by those fortunate to crew for him.

Similarly "Make it fast now, you dozy slapper" is an affectionate expression meaning "quickly, if you wouldn't mind, old thing".

Dunno why bints can't wrap their 'eds around simple English.

Woz that PC enuff?
