My annual cruise the the grandkids starts on Sunday. Plan was to cross from Chatham and get as far as the Deben. However, the forecast looks like giving a heavy dose of easterlies again so we may divert and take Beguine to the Blackwater again. Still got that long plug to windward to get to the Spitway though.

How about taking the inside route to Harty Ferry for the night and then catching the ebb out. It will give you more time to beat with a favourable tide, and even with NE winds there will be a fair amount of time when you will be able to sail almost in the direction you want to go.

Problem is we can't get away till mid-day Sunday so wouldn't be able to carry the tide inside to Harty till Monday morning. Going outside we're still headed.
Current plan is to sail to Stangate Sunday pm, then leave early hours to hit Spitway at LW Monday morning (about 6.00am) then on to B'sea or Bradwell.

The naughty man at the met office said "seven" this morning and we don't set off with a seven in the forecast :(

So it's a day at Ramsholt and off tomoz.

Totally irrelevant forecasts except fpr the header all the way from Stangate to Maplin Edge.
We ended up in Pyefleet for a spectacular view of last night's electric storm. We're currently residing on Pontoon C in Bradwell.

We were anchored in Dover harbour last night - good grief! From nothing to F7 and lightning flashing almost constantly, all the shore lights out, ferries stuck with electric shore ramps tripped out. Good old Kobra anchor didn't budge but we didn't get much sleep. Now in Eastbourne, delightful 45 mile motor.

Indeed. Looked harder work than the photo suggests.

Thanks for that Pye End.
Now back in Chatham after a great few days. Made a good decision to come outside Sheppey today as we heard that the Bridge was "inoperable" this afternoon.
As the the weather forecasts - absolute nonsense - a brisk 5 going into the Swale yesterday, not the less than 10mph forecast.
