AFAIK Hypalon

I have an old Avon brochure. There is no suggestion in there that Rover 280 floor is not Hypalon

I think if it is PVC it would be fairly obvious that it is not the same material as the tubes. I am familiar with the Avon Redstart , which is Hypalon, but I have an Avon Typhoon which is PVC. The two fabrics "feel" quite different.

The Polymarine website gives some simple tests for distinguishing between the two fabrics http://www.polymarine.com/advice/pvc-or-hypalon/ and also some detailed advice on making repairs http://polymarineshop.com/about/

Ive just rubbed the floor with acetone and it became very slightly tacky whereas the tubes were not tacky.but the floor seems a lot stronger than other PVC items Ive got.
the hole is 4mm puncture in the floor.will i damage the material if i use the wrong adhesive?
Annie

That suggests that the floor is PVC

It might be worth contacting Polymarine or another inflatable boat specialist

If you use the wrong adhesive I think you will find it will not stick properly

thanks, I'll call polymarine in the morning

If Polymarine can't or won't help try one of the local inflatable boat specialists . Heard of occasions when Polymarine have not exactly fallen over backwards to help!

nyx2k,

I've had 3 Avon Rover280 over the years and all have had hypalon floors and the colour has been the same as the tubes.

I don't recall ever seeing an R280 with a black floor and I don't understand what you mean by "slats for boards".

Are you sure of the model?

edit : Oh I think you mean slatted wooden floor enabling the dinghy to be rolled up without removing the floor. Sorry

According to my old Avon Brochure slatted floorboards were an option on the R2.50 and R2.80 models

how do you date an Avon, can i do it from the serial number.
polymarine haven't called me back yet.

Pretty sure you can date it from the serial number ... details have been posted on here in the past, but I doubt there a cat in hell's chance of finding them

Maybe a bit of Googling if no one comes forward with the info.

Last 2 digits are the year I think ... month the 2(?) before ??

Just picked this up so sorry for the delay.

The R280 with the black floor is the Aerodeck model. It is a double skinned floor. The black ls an anti chafe layer. Inside black - outside grey -so you're both right!

As to the CIN (Craft Identification Number), this applies to all RCD boats. It goes;-

Country.Maker. Serial No. Month (in alphas)& year of manufacture. Model Year

So GB AVB 999666 D2 02 would be a GB made boat,by Avon Boats serial No 999666 made in April 2002 being a Model year 2002 item. The EN ISO requirement is that it is marked on the transom outside, right side and hidden somewhere within the structure of the boat. i will not jeopardise the security of Avon owners by divulging the location(s) used.

Hope this helps, if a few months late!
