My poor old Avon ... I posted about this before - the rubber eye tore off where the painter attaches. Its pretty rough and the eye does not really have enough surrounding material to reglue it ...

So I am thinking to make a bridle and have two D rings fastened to the bow section.

So now to get hold of D rings, webbing, along with sufficient Hypalon and glue to fix on securely ...

In fact I'm wondering whether to fix 4 D rings ... two at rear as well - then I have a 4-way lifting capability.

Any suggestions or ideas for / against ?

For- isn't your drawing the way most inflatables come, a centre handle/attachment point and a D ring each side ?

Can you not just use the eyes fitted to the forward end of the hulls that have the lifting / safety ropes fitted to them.
An additional attachment point that could be used would be the rubber eye inside the bow, normally used for the tubes supporting the optional spray hood.
As a point of interest, I currently have a rope run between the two hull eyes and the bow eye and use this to help with lifting the dinghy on board.
It also help as a backup when towing the dinghy. i.e. no single point of failure.

Looks like a sensible way forward

I have a PVC Avon Typhoon. That has towing points either side of the bow like you illustrate

You can buy the D rings and patches ready made to fit rather than just using fabric Parts & Accessories - Polymarine RIB Inflatable boat repair

I believe Polymarine are restarting their mail order service on 4 May

Study Polymarine's guides and follow carefully using the correct 2 part adhesive

No ... simple answer. This is an old Avon Redstart ... you only have the safety lines along the sides and a single painter eye under the bow .... there are rubber stand-offs for lifting ... but this is old dinghy and I have a full heavy solid 12mm ply floor ... too much weight I think for those.

Thought you'd like to see the Soviet two man (its same as what used to be given to Soviet military ...... ) .... $100 with bag / pump seats etc. but no floor ...

Tks for link .....

Having towed the Avon and also as supposed to with bow hard on transom to avoid it flipping over ... I found the single painter eye a poor idea. I always considered a bridle modification better having seen others with it...

I have UV stable webbing already ... D rings I can get for about 7 euros for 4 (stainless) 5mmx40mmx37mm ... I have glue and hypalon but not sure if its still enough.

My idea was to cut Hypalon to suit .. slit centre, pass webbing through as a loop with D ring ... each webbing end then spread - stitched and all glued down. My patches would be larger than the ones offered ...
