We recently left our dinghy in the club dinghy pound. (We normally deflate it and take it home but having sailed the boat back from Scotland we had too much gear in the car and a compromise had to be made). When we went back the day before yesterday, we found that some scrote has nicked the seat. Has anyone any idea of the best way of sourcing a white GRP seat for an Avon Air deck 340 dinghy? A quick search on eBay doesn't find any for sale and the only one I've found on the www is in the USA...

John,

Do you have dimensions?

I have a grp seat from an Avon sportboat (S60?) - but its yellow.
I will take some dimensions/photos at the weekend

I just bought a very good condition second hand avon redstart from a guy at our club for £150. When I was checking whether that was a fair price I am sure I found a website selling spare parts, ron hale marine i think. Seat alone was 180!! So i didn't haggle!!

Like yours mine was missappropriated
I had considered making one from some 15-20 mm th hardwood cut the right shape then get 2 short bits of 50 X 50 aluminium angle & bolt them to the hardwood where the hook parts on the original went. Then to stop it jumping out of the 2 strops i was going to bend the legs of the angle inwards to look like the original GRP ones. Then drill a hole in each leg for a line which goes from leg to leg to stop it getting lost. The bits of aluminium needs the edges to be rounded Never got round to it but!!!

Same happened with the seat for my YAM dinghy, rather than buy a replacement, made one using an old piece of mahogany I had. New seat is longer than original and rests on the dinghy tubes, with some captive rope at each end to secure it to the web straps on the dinghy. Fairly simple, but has been effective over the years. Photo if you want?

I dun that. It works:encouragement:

John,

We have an Avon 2.8m air deck dinghy, probably the same specification for the seat, I can take dimensions for you if helpful.

Some similar scrote nicked an inflatable fender off our boat recently so we're looking for a scrote in an Avon dinghy with a smart grp seat with blue oversized inflatable fenders........
