A friend has been out on his mooring, cleaning the 'green' from around the waterline, from his avon dinghy.

Problem now from the black scuff marks from the rubber rowlocks etc, whilst cleaning hull. Is there anything which can be used to 'paint'/coat the rowlocks, to prevent this?

I have an old avon that leaves black marks from the rowlocks so would also be interested in any answers. Painted my hull green (from white) in the end which makes marks much less visible - but not really an economic solution!

Sunshine! It degrades the black rubber enough to create a surface that can transfer to anything it comes in contact with, although it doesn't knacker the rowlocks integrity.
I used to clean mine with fender cleaner. Unfortunately, it's Spanish, so no point in listing, but it smells of acetone a wee bit.
Theoretically, you could try bonding a 'bandage' of canvas or similar* to the relevant part of the rowlock, but the cost of the special adhesive is prohibitive.
It is the only glue that is compatible with the type of rubber involved, but is mined on Pluto and has to be kept in platinum jars.
* if you can get your hands on the wreck of an old Avon (to get the right material) stick some grey stuff to the outside of the rowlocks.
If your'e really good with a needle and thread, try making a canvas cover for the 'horns' , otherwise just throw a towel over the side of the dink when its against the hull.
