Hi

I have had this thought and wish to get any ideas to the possible flaws in the thinking.

You buy a UK car as an offshore identity, insure it in this country under the drivers name so that it can be taxed etc and then any parking tickets you have you can ignore as the authorities will only have the car traceable to the offshore identity where they have no chance of getting the fines, same with speeding, the fines will be sent to the offshore identity and basically could be ignored. With speeding as they dont stop you now they only have the registration plate to use to send out the fine so surely it would go to offshore identity? Is it not the registered owner that has to finally shoulder any fines and not the driver at the time, unless of course you are actually stopped for speeding by a police officer and your drivers details are taken?

I must admit I havent thought this through completely but after receiving a parking ticket and fed up with this Government and their grabby handed ways I wonder if this may work.

MUST stress not advocating speeding in any way!!!!! its more a theortical idea.

any thoughts

Me thinks your being a tad optomistic here. Dont you watch "Ballifs" on the TV, them guys will search you out no matter were. Incidentally on a similar topic, I heard of a trick lately that motorcyclists employ, it goes like this, put a CD disc on the front of yer bike apparently shags the police radar. Wonder if it works on boats cos lake warden has just got himself a new toy /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
Oh. and as Kevin states I do not condon any such behavior.

This might work, my mum next door neighbour runs both his cars on Jersey plates, black with silver numbers, I thought it was just a tax dodge but might be more, I will have to ask him about ALL the benifits, not just lower road tax and insuance.

But surely to have UK plates, there must be a UK address when registering?

What you need are CD (Diplomatic) plates. These will allow you to use diplomatic immunity to park, speed and disobey every piece of road traffic legislation in existence with impunity. I am sure there are one or two, ahem, flexible and impecunious overseas diplomats based in London, who would allow you to join their staff in exchange for a "commission" payment /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

This is the bit im not sure of but i dont think there are any rules to state who or where somebody can own a UK car? the car has to be UK registered but owner can be foreign based, im thinking that foreign businesses must be able to own UK cars

If caught by camera or by the police, they can cross check insurance details for a UK address. Sorry...

Foreign businesses tend to lease their cars through a UK funder. Vehicles are registered to the funder who pass on any fines etc... The business will also have a uk base c/o solicitor with a UK bank account.

The only way I can think of is to buy a car from another country (via mate that brings it in) that won't pass on details and bring it back to the UK on foreign plates. Your insurance should cover you for third party on any vehicle.

U mean offshore entity, right? I think this works. Has been suggested before. I'd guess you can register a car in the UK even if you have no UK address, eg you can do this in Ireland if you want to leave a car at the airport there for regular visits, and I'm possibly about to do the same in France.

So the fines will go to the offshore company, and the UK authorities will not enforce the fines.

You would need an offshore company that did not disclose publicly its shareholders, or use trustee shareholders, so you are talking £2000 pa maintenance costs, erk

Yer i understand what you are saying but im not convinced that to own a UK car you have to go through a UK company and that it cant be purchased by anybody anywhere and that is surely what the DVLA will have on its record, for example somebody from Tijuana goes to a garage buys for cash and writes on the DVLA form -15 The Avenue Tijuana, surely any problems relating to that car will have to be sent through to that address as they will have no other to know where the car is or anyway of knowing who owns it other than the address filed to the DVLA.

So any parking tickets that are not paid will be checked and sent to the owner not anybody who is insured as i found out when lending my car to a mate and he didnt pay a fine i got lumbered as the owner.

Updated- JFM thats extactly what I meant, so it can be done not that its worth doing but its nice to know that if you want to you havent got to just go along knowing that the government have your b***s in a vice.

Wouln't advise going through a dealer for cash - new money laundering regs have come in. A micky address, surely not?? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif You would have problems taxing it each year... V5 and insurance not together. Had this before, client dropped car back at garage and left as tax was up for renewal.

no not a mickey address a proper entity so that car tax isnt a problem etc. like i say not probably worth doing unless you expect to have loadsof tickets and even then its probably unlawful to avoid paying the fines so mustnt do it, but is interesting to know.

anyway being a boat forum i shall turn back to thinking of the pleasures of the water.

The only legal way of not getting parking tickets is buy a motorscooter thing. ie 50cc twat mobile. Park it on the pavement but not with the wheels touching the ground. The wording of the law leaves a bit of a loophole so the wardens can't slap a ticket on it.

Theres a plumbing co in London that have a fleet of these things all with weights added so they can park this way.

I was in london the other day. Spent 50 quid in parking and 5 quid for the pleasure of sitting in traffic all day. Thought to myself "should have used the bike" only to realise that I sold it last year!! So bugger it I went out and bought another one. Stuck it thru the company and get the tax/running costs back. Took me half hour to do a normal 1.5 hour stint in the van. No congestion charge and free parking in solo motorcycle bays
