The pump out card readers are FUBAR. Time for a new solution.

A new solution of any kind seems unlikely unless the EA recognise that the pumpout service is a necessary facility to protect the waterway and the environment.

It's my understanding that the problems at Boveney were not related to the card reader but the physical operation of the pump, either blown motor or suction side of the pump. Some poor sole had to remove it, strip it down and clean before returning and re-commissioning it. The same could be the case at the other pump outs.

Apparently hand or face wipes tend to block the pumps up. You'd think they could handle it but the wipes are actually very strong material and act like rope. Impeller pumps will get blocked. Diaphragm types are more tolerant but not trouble-free.
