My boat has a main engine which is a 4 stroke and currently I have a old 4hp 2 stroke as the auxiliairy which works really well. However the auxiliary is rarely used. I have been told I really ought to fire up the 2 stroke fairly regularly and not to keep the 2 stroke mix too long. this is OK in therory but a bit of a pain in the *rs* . Its much too easy to fire up the big Honda and sit in the wheel house rather than sit on the transom with a small tiller controled O/B.
what advice can you lot give on this?

always worth checking an aux engine every now and again - just in case you need it.

Why not fire up the auxiliary engine and leave it running out of gear while your underway with main engine. Or put it in gear and run with both engines for a while. You would still be able to steer with the main. Or use the auxiliary for propulsion and the main for steering for a while. Or run the auxiliary in gear whilst tied to a pontoon.
