I normally loose my anode long before it has eroded. I have had made a modification that solves this and have made some spares if anyone is interested? It means a normal cone anode can be fitted.
Let me know if you want details G

Hi I phase an Autoprop, and like you I had anode problems they fall off before totally eroded, last
Year I bought a different anode, which is made for a saildrive prop, it has a spigot on the back rather than a cone shaped hollow, the spigot fits neatly into the hole in the prop so has twice the amount of anode material. I antifoul around the fixing screws to slow down the eroding in the thinnest part which erodes very quickly and then they fall off, I haven't lifted yet so don't know haw it has lasted, but last time I videoed under the boat it was still there. Would like to see your arrangement.
Mike

I always paint around the three holes in the anode, so that the metal there is less liable to erode. I haven't lost one yet, but the rate of erosion is very fast, and I have to replace them every year, after only six months in the water.

I cast my own anodes, so although cheap, it is quite labour intensive. I would be interested to see your modification.

My autoprop anodes used to corrode away in a season, although they never fell off using the nylon bolts. Since painting the propeller and fitting an additional shaft anode the prop anode lasts at least two seasons and the shaft anodes lasts four.

I can let you see pictures of modification. I am new to this forum, how do I make contact?

I always paint the fixing holes on the anode - AF is OK but polyurethane varnish better. I've substituted 316 SS allen screws for the nylon fixings (they always had to be drilled out prior to that) and find that, in the Med, the standard Brunton anode lasts 2 seasons with a shaft anode fitted and just one season with none.
I'd agree that Bruntons' charge for the standard anode is ridiculous - 12 years ago I bought 12 @ trade price and still have 3.

+1... This year my "jeez, how much" Brunton Anode won't need changing, but my MGDuff shaft one will, this is the first year I've painted the fixing holes, and it's a revelation

I have now lifted my boat and, after 1 year with my mod the anode is eroded BUT still firmly attached ! So it worked .
I have photos and details if you can send me a contact e mail address or phone no to my mobile no I can let you see them (no 07793581524)
Likewise, may I have details?

Paul

I think you have a different prop to me since the nut holding prop sticks out beyond and needs to be recessed into the anode

I know its a big ask (3 years on) but do you still have any conversion kits left, very interested in buying one... Fed up with replacing anode every year due to anode fallen off but 2 other anodes still present

thanks

Darrel, yes I have some left. I need to know what size prop you have and how far the attachment nut projects beyond the prop
let me know Thanks Geoff

Geoff, I wouldn't be too keen on posting my phone number on here. Better to use Private Messaging . (PM)
