Raytheon (now Raymarine) ST 60001. The controller is connecting to the quadrant (wheel is engaged) however on auto no response to compass plus and minus adjustments.

The linear motor driving the HyPro hydraulic had a faulty brush (now repaired) but still not getting a response.

Any recommendations for engineers in Plymouth area who might be available to take a look?

You could pin it down to controller or linear drive by first checking whether the voltages change correctly when the compass course is changed. If they do it’s probably the drive (and you can check that by briefly applying 12v first one way and then the other directly from battery to see), and if they do not then the controller is at fault.

Always worth cleaning ( verifying) the multi connector to the back of the control head . Torch, magnifying glass, dentists pick , contact cleaner ... corrosion on the pin(s), you get a beep and a display but no output to drive unit ??

Sounds a good idea. No sound when pushing plus and minus. Is it supposed to beep? That could be the problem.

Earlier reply Rupert. If I connect direct 12v from battery to the linear motor, is it reversing the cables that gives plus and minus course change with the ram?

Yup it should beep
In fact the beep should be a tiny bit louder and higher pitch with an actual higher voltage being received @control head .. eg with engine on and charging batteries or with shore power charging ..
I hope that helps ..

Pretty sure beeps not turned off. So I will try and chase down the wiring at the rear of the unit

Is the St6 Ram clutch electrically engaging reliably with the quadrant each time you switch from standby to auto ?
( a clunk sound )

I will try and listen. The wheel does go solid when switching to auto from standby.

The display panel is still showing compass course correctly so must be talking to the compass. It also shows rudder angle correctly so is talking to the quadrant.

The problem seems to be transmitting the course plus and minus instructions to the quadrant ( and no audible beep on pushing the buttons).

The 12v linear motor has been rebuilt and worked on the bench. The HyPro hydraulic pump has not been touched and has sufficient fluid, so presumably working.

On auto the quadrant is locked so presumably the ram is working.

Plan tonight is to check all terminals in the control box. Connect the linear motor direct to the battery to make sure the motor is still good.

If still no result disconnect the controll box and get it tested/ repaired. If no repair possible try and source second hand box.

If all fails..... .
