Autopilot Hydraulic Pump Size?

How can you tell how big the hydraulic rams are, and therefore which pump size you need (type 1,2 or 3)?

Are all Volvo drives the same regardless of boat size?

D6 with DPH leg for example.

Raymarine do advise the 1/2 litre pump is suitable for Volvo out drives

That's the one, T70154 is part no. for the kit including P70r, EV1, ACU100 and 1/2 litre pump,
I'm going to fit one to my Sealine.

Chap,s permit me to interject ,
My A/P packed up last Oct .The A/P 20 Robertson unit -fault code suggested the pump ( an electric motor ) packed up .
Google- ing as you do threw up this

And this
http://www.lemac.com/motors/

Q is this which motor is it ?
As most prob Know boat is in SOF and as Sking / snowboarding seasons just ended here in Switzerland I,am off down with
a mate wk 4 th May to do the annual haul out Etc
VP DPG twin set up .
It may just be seized up / corroded - in which case I may be able to resuscitate it .
So does any body know which motor it is ?

You would need to look at motor and get part nos from it, that's to only way to correctly identify what you have, it may be the hydraulic side that's at fault, in which case its probably easier to get a new pump complete, you won't know until you take it apart.

Thats interesting.

I did see a complete autohlm kit for under £1000 which used the 1/2 litre pump.

i thought that might be undersized. good if it isnt

That is the correct pump for your setup, any bigger and it will scare you as it will put the boat on its side in a fast turn, don't ask me how I know, (Minor 34 at 35 knts =brown trousers!)

I've just had a look at mine, it just says 'type 1 12v' on it. I took a pic but photobucket is being an ar$e this evening so I can't currently post it, sorry.
Type 1 is a fairly common size, it's what I just fitted to my boat (sailing, though!)

Shirley, the autopilot brain compensates for the speed you're travelling at? My ageing Simrad/Robertson has low and high speed rudder turning speeds, which it calibrates during the sea trial after installation/modification.

The size of the pump allows the AP to turn the rudders faster and against more force, but it doesn't mean it has to.
