Does anyone know if an Autohelm ST7000 head be replaced with a Raymarine P70s head without upgrading the rest of the gubbins?

I'm just about to start a complete panel refit and the Autohelm unit looks a bit 80s to say the least :-(

Spend a minute checking Orca

Connects all NMEA devices abnd add a two-way wifi interface to Andoid tablets et al, for these to display and control e.g. your autopilot.
Interesting charc features, very fast autorouting taking motor/sail into consideration.

Their roadmap is pretty fast , new stuff added frequently.

And, not that it matters ;), less expensive. Made in Norway.

If you down load the manuals from the Raymarine site that contain a useful cross-reference of what can control what.

Thanks CD but got MFDs (1 x 16" for nav/radar and 2 x 5.7" for engine instruments), ideally I just need/want to upgrade the AP head.

So, this link will hopefully take you straight to the manual.

But here is the relevant page, compatibility depends on what autopilot system unit you have :

BTW the P70 does more than just control the autopilot, it can re-display most of your instrument data - wind, speed etc (via ST1-STng convertor in your case I expect)

I would bet the P70 on its own is about £500, whereas the EV-100 core pack, which includes one, starts around £1400. It would probably be most cost-effective to also replace the ACU and sensor, and sell off the drive which is included in the core pack.

EDIT: the P70 is £629.95 at MarineChandlery.com or £669.99 at Compass24!! 😱
