At switch-on my Tridata shows the correct depth for a few seconds then starts flashing on and off - the depth reading staying the same regardless of the water under the boat, interrupting the power supply briefly usually makes it work again for a few seconds before once more flashing and freezing.

Anybody got any idea what might be wrong e.g. transducer or instrument head fault etc. The transducer cable appears to be OK and the speed/log display still works properly.

Thanks

Autohelm are now part of Raymarine. They have a very helpful customer service department - why not give them a ring and ask them:

(a) What it means and
(b) How you might fix it

I don't know how the transducer is connected to the instrument head - but if it is easy to do it would be constructive to attach a different transducer and dangle it over the side - that would help to determine whether it is the head or the transducer/wiring...

New transducer I'm afraid. The inefficiency is not because of the thickness of the antifoul but because the antifoul attacks the head over time. :-(

Should have added - New head comes with big yellow label - Do Not Antifoul

It's a fault with Autohelm. My first one fitted about four years ago, flashed shallow water from new. They fitted me a new one. New one still flashes Shallow water occasionaly. By the way I dont have a depth finder fitted to it!!!!

No one can force me to come here-----------
