Our boat has a full suite of the old Autohelm ST50 instruments and I may have the option to replace with some of the newer Raymarine ST60 instruments (speed, depth, rudder indicator, wind, electronic compass). I wasn't going to change as the ST50 stuff all works well and I didn't see the point in wasting money just to have the latest kit but if it can be done at the right price I might change.

Question is will the ST60 stuff work using the Sea Talk network and existing transducers for the ST50 stuff??

Logic says that if it is Sea Talk and I get the right wires to cater for different fittings then it should work but will it???

Cheers

Hi Greg

Yes, the ST50 and ST60 stuff is compatible. I have a combination of both on Secret Lady. The only thing different is the plugs on the Seatalk cables (The ST50 have round plugs, the ST60 has the flat D type connectors. Just three connections (red, yellow and shield). I do have some spare ST50 and ST60 wiring bits if you need any. Just let me know.

PS, ST60 isn't the latest kit, you need i70 for that lol!

Airmar.com, find their reference pages for transducers.. tells you what works with what.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I knw the ST60 stuff isn't the latest Mark but it is plenty good enough for me!! Having got rid of the radar by 'Redifusion' and got a scanner for the last generation C120 I am feeling positively cutting edge :-)

I replaced my ST50s with ST60+ about two years ago as the wind sensor packed up and replacements were not available. I used the existing log and depth sensors without any problems.

so I am getting ready to do about the same thing having but don't have a clue for the wiring but bought a bunch of supposedly compatible head units from ebay. Installed is a raymarine st7000 autopilot and a tridata st 50 both have the round connectors. I am installing an st7000+ and hope that the round to 3 pin seatalk will be plug and play. I have got st60 multifunction that only has 3 pin seatalk or NMEA in/out. Anyone have some ideas or did I just blow a few hundred bucks!

If you have an ST50 Tri data+ it has an NMEA0183 output capability not available on the ST60 Tri data. If you are using this say to a plotter or other instrument on NMEA0183 network you will lose this feature if you upgrade.

If you do upgrade and want to sell the ST50 instruments feel free to PM me with a list of items an idea of how much you want.
