The clutch on our ST4000+ wheel pilot has started to stick on and will not disengage properly.

The usual problem is the other way - disengaging by itself. Sound like belt tension too high.

Yes, that was the initial problem which was solved by fitting a new belt. Think it best to disassemble again and see what happens.

Clean the little plastic wheels very thoroughly: if an out of warranty unit I put a trace of McLube in these very crude wheel bearings even though the manual is very specific about not lubricating. I think they are concerned about oils that would cause the plastics to swell but McLube is a patent dry lubricant that is good for all sorts of jobs on board and seems to help the 4000+ clutch setup work a bit better between dismantlings. Expensive but my large size can is now five years old - though now nearly empty. I also use it on blocks, rope clutches, sail tracks etc.
