We have an Autohelm 6000 fitted to our boat - I would guess that it is the same vintage as the boat - 1985, but it still works well. However, the wired remote control has ceased to work and I wondered whether it might be possible to buy a replacement which would permit switching the autopilot between auto/standby via the remote - the present one only allows one to switich between auto and manual which is not entirely satisfactory.

I've yet to contact Raymarine. I imagine that they will fall about laughing at the thought of spares for a nearly 30 year old bit of kit....

Any thoughts?

The purpose of the remote's "manual" setting is to allow remote power steering. If the remote had a "standby" function, it would allow the wheel to be turned manually, but if you're near enough to do that, why not use the standby button on the main control panel?

I'd imagine the remote control is a relatively simple electrical unit, so it should be possible to fix yours.
