Does anyone know what the motor is that Autohelm (and presumably Raymarine) use in their tiller drive rams?
My vintage Autohelm 2000 tiller pilot motor has given up. The remainder seems fine, so I'd just like to replace the motor that lives in the end of the ram. I'm told it's a Mabuchi motor, but the numbers have worn off mine. Does anyone know the reference or is able to check, please?

Yes, before asking here I did some extensive internet research.
Now I'm hoping that a helpful soul who has either repaired one, or has one to hand and is willing to have a look at it, can help me out.
Like I said above, I'm told that the actual motor is a Mabuchi and available for a few £, rather than the 60-odd AUD in the link above.
 
I repaired mine 2 years ago. The motor had a very small diameter shaft which seemed to be the critical part. I found a motor on ebay for about £5 and made up some spacers using ABS pipe fittings from b&q. It's been working fine since. It's hard to tell the difference between it and my other ram which has the original motor. I'll get some pictures next time I'm at the boat if it's any help.

The place I bought mine does not sell them any more but there should be plenty of other ebay suppliers.
 
I should point out that the motor shaft on mine was a smaller diameter than the RS555SH motor mentioned above. There appear to be two different sizes used. I suspect mine was an early model. I couldn't find a suitable replacement other than the cheap eBay one.
