Bit of a silly name but any way. You need to set the auto pilot up to the boats speed and capability. No good asking it to do a 90deg turn if the boat cant do it or you will be way off track and the Auto pilot will just complain.

My previous boat did the same and I put it down to the fact that there is greater pressure on the rudders at speed. If the Simrad is like the Autohelm pilots, could be you need to increase the response and/or the rudder settings. I believe this will make the pilot respond earlier to course errors and make a larger rudder movement. It worked with my boat
Bit of a silly name, Hmm not if you know were i live!!!!!!
Boat can do the job, auto pilot will not keep a straight track, but thanks for the advice........
They need to be setup properly, I cannot remember the details now but it is all in the handbook. You have run in the setup mode at slow speed and then at high speed for it to learn the characterictics of your boat. Which model do you have and have you got the handbool?
Simrad work differently to Autohelm and have this more complex setup system. I have had 3 previous boats with Autohelm and to start with I did not like the Simrad, but now I am quite pleased with it. It tracks perfectly at low or high speed in all conditions. I suspect his Simrad has not been setup properly.
Will have another look at the book, maybe i have missed something, not sure if i will get the chance to test the boat, weather is -10 & snowing so you folks can think your selves lucky!!!
Thanks Andrew 38, just got to that part in the book, iam sure that is the problem or the high & low setting, if the weather goes fine for the weekend will try to adjust.
Thanks again..........
