I’ll second pvb , my wife thought she would surprise me with four new ones recently and two will be useless in anything other than a T-shirt, no good if jacket and jumpers worn.

Good idea. I do a lot of sailing in just a tee shirt.
On a sad not a young girl died here a few years back when her lifejacket got caught on a cleat of the upturned boat that she had been on. The Coroners verdict was that the lifejacket she was wearing was too big for her.

Go to a shop and try them on. Ignore any recommendations here - lifejackets have to fit and be comfortable.
Big +1 for that.

Do see how easy it is to adjust from T shirt weather in the afternoon to fleece and jacket overnight. The only other thing I'd say is that the ones with separate bladders are more robust than the cheaper ones (XM and the like) that don't. XMs are easier to repack after service, but I'd sooner pay a bit more.

I think my next ones will have zips or similar, rather than clips, which get difficult to put on as the webbing stiffens up with use, and the easier they are to put on and take off, the more likely you are to use them, and the more likely you are to use them, the more likely you are to be wearing it when you need it.
