My friend requires one for his son to go a cruise !! The child is very , very mobile and mischievous ( aka Ratboy) . Familiar with the pre-inflated but anyone know of a discrete auto-inflate . Their piece of mind.

I looked around for something similar a couple of years ago but was told that they did'nt do them for that age as
1) the autoinflate could seriously injure a young child
2) the auto inflate might not work as there might be insufficient depth gained on immersion to inflate.

Youngest was had a stuffed lifejacket for a few years until she got big enough for an auto!

Thanks , that would probably explain it. Unfirtunately in Ratboy's case the two reasons look like good reasons to provide him with one ...!!

I just bough a couple of Crewsaver 150n stuffed jackets for my two - 18 months and almost 5. The 5 year old would have fitted the smallest auto I could get but these are the reasons why I went for what I did:

1. If it's auto it also has to have a manual. They will fiddle with that and will pull it.
2. If the auto fails then you have to rely on the sense to pull the manual.
3. They have an integral harness with the ring at the back. It can't be fiddled with. 4. Stuffed jackets provide a certain amount of padding/protection when they fall over and roll/bounce around the boat.

When my son was small we decided to go for a more conventional type lifejacket,
After hearing of failures with the automatic type,
The conventional ones might not be as discrete, but you have no worries about it not inflating!
They produce some really with-it ones today covered in pictures etc.
My son thinks his is cool! no idea who's picture is on it though!!!

I agree. My 8 year old has just graduated to his first fully automatic, harness in front, job and his 15 month old brother has inherited his first rigid foam, harness at back, job. The padding effect is espescially useful!
