Aussie rules sailing ?

yep, dinghy sailors don't bother with colregs anyway.... 9(d)says he shouldn't impede.

He didn't /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

but 9(d) states that the ferry should have sounded according to 34(d) which are 5 short blasts..... but he only sounded one long as he ploughed through! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Praps somebody had better go tell the ferry man? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I did a day charter in Sydney Harbour and was told that the Harbour rules gave ferries right of way over all other traffic. The harbour cannot be described as a narrow fairway and this seems to contradict the Colregs. On the Mersey, which is far more restricted (and unpleasant), the ferries always give way to sail. Can a harbour authority implement rules like this and how would you know about them if you arrived by sea?

Those Sydney Harbour ferries don't stop for nothing.

I have to disagree; I was there in July 2002 and a whale got into the Harbour. The Manly ferry paused for around 10 minute to watch the whale. Most of the rest of Sydney was on the shore, on the water or in the air around the beast!

Regards,
Derek.
