Just come back from a month's trip to Brittany. I like to take the NW corner of France in stages - L'Abervrach to Camaret for the Ch Du Four, Camaret - Audierne for the Raz, then off to wherever.

Went into Audierne again and must comment that the place is deteriorating. The supermarket close to town is now not a lot more than a food jumble sale. There is no fuel on or near the pontoons and the supermarket that sold fuel is now gone.

The visitors' berths - and there were never many - now seem to be filled up with locals with one pontoon end reserved for some big fat Duc de Bouche.

The showers and toilets are pretty poor and there aren't many of them.

Big shame really. I quite liked the place but despite the friendliness of the harbourmaster, I don't think I shall be returning.

Audierne always seem a wasted stopover to me and we go Camaret - Benodet/Glenan going south and Concarneau/Glenan - Morgat going north. Stopping at Audierne doesn't conveniently allow a longer jump next day so unless there were some other reason I wanted to go there I wouldn't bother. That said we were please to anchor overnight at the outside anchorage St Evette this year going home, rather than face the wrath of the Raz with NW5/6 (mostly sea breeze caused) against the tide, about a dozen or so others agreed too! We then go Morgat - L'Aberwrac'h going north rather than visit Camaret both ways, prefer Morgat too, lovely walks, caves to visit and Croustillons Hollandaise from the mobile eatery/snackery on the way to town.

Yes, not too impressed with Audierne last year except as convenient stopover close to the Raz. Lots of nicer places to choose if you want to do anything other than just have a bit of rest or wait for the tide or weather, but as you say, staff very friendly.
