Au revoir!

Listen up Peeps....
Mike is only going in an official capacity... so he has said he will still be here to join in as a member of Joe Public more fully than before. After all, Ships cat and Ships Woofy appear to have transitioned very successfully

Bye Bye Mike Martin, OFCOM bloke
Long Live Mike Martin Forumite....

Mike, very sorry to see you go.
I know that we dont see eye to eye, particularly over the validity of the Cof C,
but it has been a rare treat to have an actual Civil Servant willing to stand up and give the official view.
I hope that you are not too much of a stranger in your private capacity.
An entirely short sighted move by Ofcom in my opinion, which has done them far more harm than good.
When is someone going to see some sense and give us back the RA!!
Ofcom is far too unwieldly.
I expect that when I want to complain now, I'll have to phone up some bimbo in Mumbai who doesnt know the difference between an antenna and a microphone.

And they call it progress.........

Steve.

Sorry to see you leaving the Forum. Your comments and information have been invaluable to us all. Let's hope that your honesty with us does not rebound by adversely affecting your future.

The effects of the short sightedness of this "open" Government under Bliar, where spin and not truth rules, have to be seen to be believed. What it amounts to is that one can trust government statements less and less than ever before since Parliament first came into being.

The situation has steadily declined since the 1997 election of the (B)liars to power. Let's hope that we get rid of them at the next election. The sooner the better.

Thanks for the kind words gents, as mentioned I will be around from time to time but when I'm not working there are things to do.

One thing I'd like to make clear is that the directive from on high was not aimed at me per se but at all Ofcom personnel.

However, I will try to swing by regularly and you can always email to the address above.

I think the point most of us were trying to make Mike, is that in every large organisation, certain individuals are authorised to make public statements, appear on media on behalf of the organisation etc. What seems to be clearly felt is that you should be allowed to represent Ofcom on these forums, and that we are prepared to make representations to Ofcom to allow you to provide a very useful service in an official capacity.

Re: Bollocks!

and I dont care if Kim gives me grief over this one.

very few professional bodies have seen the need to come and show a public face here. You and a very few others, like John Watson of MDL saw that they could educate face to face, and took a great deal of flack while doing it. It's individuals that make this difference, and no one else from Ofcom is going to make the necessary time and effort to come and educate.

If you give even the slightest hint that you'd appreciate or allow us to do so, I will quite happily make a large amount of noise, and petition Kim and others to make the representation

Re: That\'s Life!

It's a kind offer and well appreciated but to be honest it would do more harm than good.

As a civil servant I was seen as a bit of a rebel when it came to my dealings with people, too straight forward not enough red tape! Now it would be very simple to decide that I was stirring up trouble for some imagined reason and deliver the bum's rush to me.

So it is best to let sleeping dogs lie!

Understood

Mike, appreciate your position and thanks for having chipped in so often in the past. Breaking company IT rules serious issue these days.

I wouldn't offer this to everyone but in view of circumstances if you want to send occasional non-attributable refs to anything on here via email would do what I can to get them posted in reasonable timeframe.

Re: Understood

Ships_Cat and Ships Woofy are gone - how would you like Ships_Parrot /forums/images/icons/smile.gif?

While a long way away and showing a tendency to give you grief, I have really valued your posts in their giving a wider view of the radio frequency management world. Keep it up.

Re: Bollocks!

Hi Brendan - you are right. It takes courage and conviction though and unless someone senior picks up the baton, nothing will move. Good luck and best wishes from a hot and sunny Bangkok, John
