Noted this when our club secretary sent round the recent ATYC Noticeboard pdf;

ANNUAL RALLY
It was intention to return to Henley this year but we have just been advised that the Henley Royal Regatta have rejected our application out of hand!
Not really very friendly by the rowing fraternity!
We are looking at alternatives and Kingston with the front runner. We will see how we can put an attractive programme together for you.

Well that's rowers for you!

I don't understand. Surely the land you need for the rally is owned by the Wotsername bruvvers. This is the land the 5 clubs used to successfully rent.

As I understand it, Wokingham District council are very fussy about the number of events held in Henley each year. That was (I believe) why the old rally was cancelled a few years ago. Coincidentally the year before the first 80' Festival...... ;)

I took this to be about Fawley Meadow = Henley Royal Regatta Land. If it was Remenham/Copas Bros then surely it wouldn't be the rowers who could stop it?

Believe it was Fawley Meadow that was the intended location but apparently HRR are being very choosy about which events they will book. Copas on other side more expensive?
Either way, sad that an organisation like ATYC cant be allowed to hold an event once every three years - go figure.

Ok - lets see what Henley Town Council are made of - rally above the bridge and use R&R Museum for evening 'do' - they can seat 180 in the Rowing Gallery - after all, it is the RIVER and Rowing Museum! 

Can't see you all being very popular with the locals during the boat handling,a smoky blue haze drifting over the islands and down towards the bridge:)

Fawley meadow has been in a very poor state due to flooding for the last few years, the Trad Boat Rally has been cancelled for two years and the Regatta fireworks for one I think.
To preserve the Meadow I understand HRR have limited events to those that have been there historicaly annualy only.
So if they have to limit the events there to ensure something like the Trad boat rally can continue every year, then I don't think thats a bad thing.
