ATYC and Rugs

Mike , i am sure what you say is correct but the few people that represent the ATYC that have visited here have come across as very agressive and they only seem to have appeared since Uncle Tone started the TMBA . I am sure they are lovely people trying thier best for the river but to enter a group of people that may not know who they are ( or give a monkeys who they are ) and start shouting the odds isnt the best way to gain respect .
Right now , to me , they are just rude .

Not aware

...... of ATYC committee members that attend this site and comment as representing ATYC.
I can only say that I have no experience of said rudeness.

Sadly there will always be people that can be rude but please do not assume that all ATYC representatives are the same.

Has he gone?

Episode 3

On behalf of TUGn Mr. Shefras claims to represent 25,000 boaters on the River.
Firstly is a TUG something to do with a RUG; does TUGn then mean that it's a RUG from 1 to 9 in turn - as needs be? or hasn't it got around to deciding what number it is?
It seems that the unnumbered TUG is overall in charge of the RUGs. (See the end of the letter) Is that so??

I must confess to being quite confused as to the exact nature of TUGn and searching the internet has failed to discover much information other than it appears to exist.
A document from early 2010 available on the ATYC website contains the following paragraph:
The THAMES USER GROUP (Navigation) (TUGn) is formed of representatives from all regional bodies acting for all those who boat on the Thames above Teddington. It includes every type of recreational boat user and has full representation of all sectors of the marine trade on the Thames.
However, I have been unable to trace any sign of a website, constitution or how to join. Maybe one of our ATYC vets might be able to assist?

TUGn is certainly not 'in charge of' the RUGS which, I believe I am right in saying, are EA sponsored groups. Incidentally, RUG 9 was the tidal Thames from Teddington to the sea. However its allotted space on the RUG Groups website is empty and it now appears to have its own website at www.riverusergroup.com although there appears to be little there to evidence an active group.

Created by PLA - info on ATYC website. Please note that I am not on the ATYC committee I am only a boat club rep.

Only ? You shouldnt put yourself down like that :)

I edited previous post as I then saw that B1 was already aware of the ATYC info but obviuosly did not submit correctly. My apology relates to attempting not to get hassled for further info.

Created by PLA - info on ATYC website.

Do you mean that TUGn was created by the PLA or that the RUG(Tidal)was?
The para that I quoted is from a policy statement - tugn official thames statement 270101-9.doc - relating to the setting up of the waterways charity.

I can find nothing that explains the structure and management of TUGn at all.

Rather than ask here - would it not be easier to try one of the many names listed on TUGn 1024 document?
