atwood water heater cover, where to drill some holes into it

is the item

i have taken the metal front cover off to repair the heater, now works again, burned out wire, corroded connector

but i can't get the bottom screw of the cover back on, access is just too poor, be easy if i took the engine out :)

so, if i drilled some small holes in the front plate, either side of the electric access cover, i'd be able to secure the cover
dont want drill into the wires / pipes behind the outer casing ....
