Attention Webmaster, Dishonest and Unacceptable Policy Here

+1

Not one ad on the site using adblocker. I also use DuckDuckGo for internet searches.

Same here but using Startpage.com for searches. Their Anonymous mode is quite useful and a step beyond Private as everything runs on a remote server and you only see the output. Doesn't work with everything (e.g. Logging on to a site where more data must be passed back & forth).

I remember showing someone the difference between a Google and Startpage generated link.

Search for YBW on Google using Edge browser: (Rather a lot of extra information)
"https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiwqs2rhIDkAhWMY1AKHYo0BGYQFjAAegQIBRAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ybw.com%2F&usg=AOvVaw1wpqLHteoLACNk_LH54D-P"

Search for YBW on Startpage using Edge Browser: (Only returns the bare link)

I also use the Brave browser with enhanced privacy configured and that also produces "https://www.ybw.com/" even using Google.

N.B. There are a lot of sites much worse than YBW. I hate ones where you are forwarded to each partners site individually to see their "privacy policy" and each has a link hidden in text to take you to a page allowing you to turn off tracking. Much easier to use Brave plus StartPage Anonymous mode and they get nothing back anyway.

I continue to be bemused by the paranoia of so many forum members about tracking. What on earth are you all searching for which you don't want anyone to know about?

Have a strange tracking situation when home. If I search for and look at some items on line, a day or so later my wife starts receiving ads for the same things. We have separate email addresses and separate computers. Good job I've not been looking at porn:)

Have you set your ad preferences? For example, Google lets you turn off ad personalisation. Or use an adblocker.

Rubbish, you can reject the lot with one click. I log out as I travel a lot, when the page pops up you should have all the switches as off by default. Do not click the top accept button, scroll down and click the button at the bottom which saves the preferences, until you log out again.

When you reject it, it doesn't save a cookie, or it has a very short duration, so next time you come back you get asked again.

Does all this include the pop up that tells me that as a Google or sometimes Three customer k have just won the chance to win a prize.

Who do these half-wits think their customers are?

Advertise to me, fine. Otherwise don't try to trick me.

Don't you have a pop-up blocker?

If you're logging in to the site, it is no problem technically to save your cookie, or "no cookies", preferences server side

However, on the YBW site even if you give in and accept the cookies it still occasionally asks you again!

Oh and the "Dear 3 customer" page grabber is an absolute pain in the bottom when accessing the site on the smart phone

Just taken this screenshot. Note what is marked in red:

Why does traveling require logging out?
You work it out.
Well if I could I wouldn't have needed to ask...

+1 . Its not the Adverts I object to, (you cant stop these) its the tracking cookies - that's all this stuff stops. Why should I have to reject tracking cookies every 24 hours?
Presumably because you told them they couldn't store a cookie which would store the preference!

Have you seen the number of organisations they send your data to?
Well, you think it's appalling. It seems the majority don't really mind.

Shiny shoe if it's any consolation I don't know why you would have to log out when you travel either.
Thank god I'm not alone!!

Same IP address

I'm not sure what's wrong with personal ads! If I have to have ads would I prefer an ad for something boating related or some perfume?

I travel and don’t log out - perhaps the poster who does need less a little tech lesson
Starting to feel normal now. Thanks

What?
I don't see Dear 3 customer...
Explain?

I generally use the site on my mobile phone and don't find the amount of advertising excessive. I'm an advertisers nightmare and can simply ignore it all.

I'm fascinated that so many posters think that people are tracking them because they are interested specifically in them. Is it a form of conceit? An ego trip? Do they all have blacked out car windows so the paparazzi cant spot them?

I think you're missing my point. I accept that many of the sites I visit install trackers but, what enables them to, in effect, tie my computer to another with its own log in details? Can trackers be downloaded to routers?

I may be wrong, but I believe that 2 computers using the same wifi router will both have identical external IP addresses.

Your provider will supply the router with an IP address and the router keeps track of computers on your internal network by assigning them internal IP addresses (different range from one supplied by the provider). The router effectively maps the multiple internal IP addresses to the single external facing one. It uses a mechanism which assigns a "port" number to the outgoing data and returning data for the same "port" is sent to the appropriate device on your internal network.

It's actually a lot more involved that this but I've tried to simplify and ignore a lot of additional stuff as you are only interested in the bit about "single external IP address for multiple computers". No doubt someone will come along and say it's a rubbish description and full of errors. However, I hope it gets the basic idea across.
