Attention SoF boaters - new speed limit around Cap d'Antibes

While we seem to have raised the spectre of flagging your boat in a none mother tongue or resident country , linking to Fr implementing speed restrictions and potentially stopping boats .
As some will know there s a big Fr Princess importer in La Nap .
Over the years they seem busy ,they have at least 5 boats undergoing PDI on there dealer berths at any one time .
Some hang around some disappear shortly after handover and dealer fitment of stuff .
Up to now ( past 15 years ) mostly Fr flagged .
The Fr ( although made in Plymouth) have adopted Princess it seems as there prestige boat - I mean quality boat not to be confused with a home brand that sports the same word “ prestige “
Clients are normally well heeled , Aston’s Maseratis ,Bentleys and Porsche’s priority parked at the jetty for a while .
Normal Fr plated not MC btw .
Thing is this year they are flagged with the red duster .

So why ?
Well if they are all Brits they have Fr reg cars and speak with immaculate Fr accents all the time and never seem to utter an EN word :)

One a P 55 berthed nearly opposite use ( new arrived last week -pexd a P 45 ) is even called “007 “
At the firsts run out with every Family member they all spoke French ,the guy is a local 06 plater car etc .

So why it got a red duster ? Previous P45 was flagged with a tricolour.
Two more are Fr and one near us the family speak Russian.
All four new boats Pricesses and red dustered up .

Has Macron tweeked the boat / Hp tax ? ——- and it now pushing new registrations away ?
If so they will see in 12/12 a severe drop in Fr reged boats that does not reconcile with the sales ?
Are Cardiff giving red duster registration away with weak online self certification checks ?

Somethings changed .

Hi all. We actually got pulled over by a fast gendamerie rib the other day when doing 20kn prob 150m off the cap. It was quite a “heavy” stop in that there were blue light and sirens on and a couple of guys with big guns waving us to stop. We thought it was a customs check or something, but it turned out they were enforcing the new speed limit. We were very polite and apologetic with them, and they were fortunantly very friendly back and just gave us an informal warning as opposed to a fine. Given we hear the starting fine for speeding in Cannes is apparently eu2,000 I think we got off very lightly.

BTW we’re moored in Port Vauban and other postees are right - we haven’t recieved anything from them, nor seen anything locally about the new limit. But I aggree, the new limit is a good thing and may even reduce the often excitable seas at the cap partially caused by 100s of wakes (including mine)!

Thanks Jimmy great spot, although it would be great if this was adhered to, because as I am sure you already know the Billionaires bay can be a bit lumpy with all of the boats flying by. No one that I have seen has been adhering to this over the last 4 visits, me included to be fair.

I have only been in PV since early July, so would be nice to catch up sometime.

Thanks Jimmy for the info - I didn't know and have been speeding through obvious for the last month or so!
Will make billionaires bay a possible useable anchorage now, which is nice
Cap Ferrat next I wonder? Is just as busy.
I'm next there for the bank hol weekend btw. Significant raft up planned including Freeride, Wave, Wave-Chaseboat, etc (location tba) Catch up then perhaps? Johng39 also perhaps?

We're driving down, with a couple of wine stops en route, will arrive PV bank hol Monday and then be there for the week. Hope we get the chance to coincide.

We're driving down too and plan to arrive next Sat 25 Aug. We will be around for 2 weeks so hope to catch up with anyone who's around

We drive ( not far for us :encouragement:) down on Monday for 2 weeks or so .Guests part of that .
Have a rare return to the U.K. early Sept then return to the boat ( another two sets of guests for mid / endow Sept for a few more weeks until mid Oct or weather breaks then pack it up for this season .

We will be out and about .

Road trip ? I have the perfect car boat for that ! Just picked up a 695 Abarth Riva Rivale special edition ! Hull number 527.

Same colour scheme, full of carbon and goes like stink.

Don’t plan on getting it wet though ....

Same colour scheme, full of carbon
Never mind the carbon, it's the Aquarama style mahogany dashboard that is to die for!
Did you get the coupe or cabrio?
Regardless, now that you already have the road tender, I'm looking fwd to some pics of the boat to go with it! :encouragement:

As it was the Abarth we went down the carbon road had it been the standard Riva 500 we would have gone mahogany and cabrio.

Maybe a while before I can afford the boat to go with it ....!

That I can understand! If we decide to move to the SOF ( a possibility) it’s coming with us.

In fact I already have the Monaco Yacht Club car badge ready just for fun!
