That certainly qualifies as a strange story. My personal strangest was sailing offshore at night, in a fairly rough sea. Hearing a strange sound at the masthead, I looked up to see an osprey trying to land on the top of the mast. Seconds later the tri-light crashed to the deck! Now, what are the chances....?
In Grand Cayman there is a tourist spot called stingray city where hundreds of stingrays hang around in chest high water waiting to be fed by tourists brought out to this sand bank by tripper boats, its a bit alarming when you see these black shapes under water, a friend and I got in with great trepidation, trying not to stand on the bottom, the boatman gave us lumps of fish and we were then set upon by these stingrays almost climbing up you, one of them gave my friends thumb a nasty nip, which was when i decided to get out, we were told 'dont worry about the sting, there harmless' wonder what would have happened if I had trodden on one with my size tens!
Been there, done that - lept of the side of a cat into very deep water and watched the black shapes appearing from below. Fed them on squid. They sort of stand on their tails and snatch the food out of your hand.
There were hundreds of the things, some must have been two metres plus wingspan - will dig some photos out.
A diver was also "stung" near my home here a few weeks ago in the lower abdomen. He was gathering rock lobsters and didn't know anything about the ray until it got him.
Fortunately while he needed fixing up he was not badly injured.
