attaching stern fender

What is the best stuff to glue a long rubber stern fender onto GRP? I've heard about sikaflex? I guess it needs to be some kind of silicone sealant and adhesive combined so that it has a bit of give when bumping the pontoon but doesn't come unstuck? - not that I'm planning to do that of course...

I did this job recently gluing a "D" shaped long piece of fendering to the stern of the boat I used Evostick "Sticks like S**t" available from builders merchant. It did exactly that and after 6 weeks recently it still is soundly stuck. It is half the price of Sikaflex,and does not go "off" on the tube. Only available in white. I used Duck tape to hold the fendering in place while the adhesive was setting (overnight). However ,other forumites might well recommend using Sikaflex,which should do the job as well.

So you finally did it yae sassy ole git ye!....

.. I wonder whether this bloke has your problem of covering a bit of damage on the corner of his transom (oops, pardon!) or like me needs to replace a somewhat weathered looking "bumper" on the flange of his sugarscoop.

In my case I refitted a new piece of "U" shape rubber with a few tubes of low modulus silicone using masking tape to keep excess off of the hull. Lots of "quick cramps" used with thin plywood pads to hold it in place until the sealant cured.

An alternative to trying to glue a bumper in place is to put a lie on both ends of a standard fender, tie the stern end short to the stern cleat and tie the forward line well forward to the toe rail. The fender will then slide along the dock without rolling out and you can adjust it to the right hight, just make sure its low enough not to pop up.
