Designed by CSJ Roy and similar in looks ans probably performance to the MacWester range of yachts, which isn't surprising as he designed them as well. There's an owner's association for MacWester owners that includes the Atlanta Viking. URL is as follows;

My brother has got one. Solid, heavy boat that feels like it would keep going in a blow (although we have only sailed it in failry light conditions). Not the best to windward, but then it is a bilge keeler. Quite good accomodation, would sleep a couple and a couple of kids no problem, and headroom is quite good too. Can't comment on the Yanmar, as my brother's has a Bukh (which is brilliant). Hope this helps.

Designed by C.S. Roy as previously mentioned and similar to the Mac 27, modified after tank testing at S'ton uni, so keels are a) deeper, b) aerofoiled, flat on the outside, shaped on the inside edge, goes much better to windward than the mac, built by an outfit down at Fareham( Atlanta Marine?) and the subject of a series of articles in PBO by???? in the mid/late70's, then condensed into ' Levelling up to launching'. Normal fit out gave, F/cabin double, Loo, Hanging Locker, Double berth Dinette ( Drop down Table) , Linear Galley, and quarter berth. Good headroom in main saloon, lay up was in the region of 1.5" below the waterline and 1" above ( built like a brick outhouse) lots were home build so standard of fitout will vary. Portsmouth rating (old scale ) around 126, so wern't slow but not fast. good sea boat and would take anything that was thrown at them, 58kntots and seas to match on one occasion ( severe dose of Rectal pucker factor) in the main undercanvassed....Built one in 81/83, sold in 86, she's still going strong.

Thanks for the replies, I've looked at a few Mac 27s 28s and the Atlanta viking 8.5, They seem very solidly built, [although one was in very poor condition] I have now found an article and boat test in PBO 1975 [sad that I still keep them all] by George Taylor prior to him purchasing one to fit out.
