ATIS MMSI

My new DSC radio allows me to program in my MMSI. Fair enough, I understand that.
However it also allows me to program an ATIS MMSI. I've no idea what this is. A quick Google leads me to think it's something to do with Inland waterways, but I've not been able to find anything definitive.

Can anyone shed any light on the matter?
