Observing that one is supposed to use ATIS in Europe, (inland) I have taken the trouble to obtain an amendment to my licence to give me a number (MMSI with a 9 prefix). However I see that not only must I carry a printed copy of the RAINWAT agreement, all 30 pages! but that I may not use a radio transmitting the signal in the Uk, and OFCOM do not guarantee that even this will make me legal in Europe.
So I spend money either on a mod to my radio or perhaps buy a handheld with ATIS, but when I have, I cannot switch ATIS off so my radio is not UK legal . What to do?
What a stupid situation, driven by beaurocratic madness(or empire preservation!) when we are supposed to be in the EC with common rules.Or is there something I am missing? As bad as red diesel. Or do I just ignore it all?

go to the RYA site all info is there, red diesel, poo in the water, atis, rainwat, shengen, uncle tom cobly.
we the British seem to get hung-up on legislation that in the main is not enforced. UNLESS you upset somebody

Just choose a radio where you can select ATIS when needed and deselect when not needed.... You can always tell the folk who fail to switch it off.....Sounds like the Roger Bleep on a CB radio

My friend bought a Dehler 34 in Netherlands 13 years ogo, with ATIS enabled radio, he's not had any problems in UK since. HH radios in Netherlands are limited to 15/17 I think. Most radios have USA and INT switching channel sets. Enable USA set with ATIS, Use INT set in UK. Or do as I do, ignore it.
