Astonishing two stroke outboard stats

So what extra impact does my little 4hp 2-stroke on the Orwell have compared to all those container vessels 5 miles down river. The answer is actually none ........

If you consider the Deepwater Horizon spill, the 43 million barrels of oil that was released into the environment probably represents 50 years of unburnt 2 stroke oil from the entire world's OB's, concentrated both in time and geographical area, yet the environmental impact has been surprising light, considering the volume.

Given the enormous amount of eco-propaganda we have to endure I have often wondered how there's anything left alive in the ocean after World War II, when oil tankers and all manner of other vessels were torpedoed, shelled, bombed and generally battered during the Battle of the Atlantic, the Russia convoys, and all the other assorted combat zones. Amounts of oil spill that would put all the modern spills combined into the shade.

Yet it all seems to have survived. The Germans sank 452 oil tankers in the Atlantic. Usually full ones.

I know I’m missing a Circlip .... but the previous owner (or the workshop they sent it to) didn’t fit it... but the gears mesh & run snug ... so not really an issue .... APART-FROM .... when trying to re-assemble ..... so far it’s taken me two episodes of NCIS & three cups of Tea (bits all-over the kitchen .... SHHHHHH!) .... just going for my 4th cup & to have another go!. I need it fixed & running so I can put it in the ‘Test-Tank/Big-Bucket/Drum tomorrow! ...... & I really do hate ‘stinky-gear-oil’ ..... man! ... I smell BAD! .... & so does the kitchen! ...... update to follow shortly!
Update:
It runs .... second compression! ..... I do Luv 2~'s :)

Sod That!

Have you ever tried rowing any distance in winds which are gusting >25kts .... I have .... and still can .... but I choose not to ... as I had to rescue a fellow club member (no engine available) ... you couldn't stop rowing .... and once I arrived at his boat my arms were burning! ..... & I'm still reasonably fit with good upper body strength! ....... "Oars" ...... Pahhh! ;)

IMHO the dinghy and oars makes a massive difference.

I've had the pleasure of rowing this lovely little boat:

And you can make a lot more progress to windward than you could in, e.g.

I'm really Bad!

I have 2 Mercury 3.3 outboards 2 stroke 100:1 mix.So I would be thought a double polluter! In fact one was used once ten years ago, then de-comissioned and has lived in a wardrobe ever since.Occasional pull of the cord to see if rotation is still ok.The other lives on the boat and was not used at all last season! ;)So I have little to confess except that I have saved the production pollution of manufacture of two 4 strokes whose oil spillages would outweigh any potential benefits!

I posted this further back in the thread, but unaccountably it got wedged amongst previous posts,a bit of a gremlin left here and there?( are gremlins politically biased?)
