Any good?

There seem to be a few around from 2000/2001 for just a few k over £100k so I guess a bid in the 90s would probably buy one of them.

Are they ok though? They look a bit like the Garin/Birchwood 40/41, similar radar arch but slightly different interior (bigger galley, only one bog). Mostly out in Spain (which is ok), just wondered how they compared to say a Targa 40?

Targa 40 would probably be £120k for even a very early one, were as these would be £25k less. The there is the Garin, with 2006 boats + D6s knocking about for £120kish. That almost seems to good to be true.

Cue PY for the merits of each (genuinly interested, promise not to take the micky)
 
I dont know them at all, though the Astondoa yard is well regarded as you know. But I just googled and found a few, and thought I'd egg you on by saying what a gorgeous boat. Stunning looker imho, and all the right stuff inside accommodationwise. Seriously worth going after one of these imo, and if I compare say with Elle which was a 1995 prin v39 at around £90k I'd much prefer the 2000/2001 Astondoa, imho

Still a current model, too. What's not to like about this in the looks departyment?

A neighbour in the med has one, agree with jfm they look good on the water. This one had blue gelcoat but it had faded very badly, this could be through lack of care and maintenance but possibly something to look out for.
 
I sold an Astondoa 46
and it turned to be a well enginered boat
I spoke to an Italian chap who came to Malta in 2003 with two other boats one was a Princess V42, the other was a Neptunus 41 Cambridge or fairly new boats
according to him the Astondoa was the best handler, but may be the Princess guy and Neptunus ownre would tell u the same
that blue interior is ugly but for nowadays, this is had a nice cherry interior for -100k I would give it big thinking but

Ah, ok. Still, worth a few cheeky offers on the Astondoas perhaps. Would be a steal at £90k? 5 years newer than Elle, remeber. I still think A40 is a stunning looker, imho.

also as £ is appreciating vs € and they're all €priced you have a small extra edge?
 
Yep, I like these. bit concerned about buying a lesser known brand than say a fairline, but as I am now seriously leaning towards a boat in the sun, the fact they are all in the spanish market I suppose matters a lot less.

One for the list mthinks. Newer boat with better engines has got to be a plus, and i do like the styling.

Anyone know how they drive, would they be ok punching a F4-5 for a few hours back from the Balearics?
 
they drive good and what an outdrive boat would normally do
I think hull shape was 18 degrees deadrise aft same as an Olenski designed Princess / Fairline but I think if I remember correct the fore vee entrance was a bit less like lower 30s instead of high 30s as the Olenski hull
so for you to understand me see it as a compromise from a Sunseeker in the forward section and Princess Fairline aft
the lines exterior design of the Astondoa of the period was by Nuvolari Lenard, I am not sure about the 40 tough
for that money is a great buy!
 
They are a nice looking boat for sure. I had a closer look before getting Houston.

Astondoa's not so well known in th UK which was a negative but the background and stable they come from is Fab. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif (worth a google)

The Asti' 40 lacked in a few areas which meant no good for us. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Poor cockpit, no forward facing crew seats.
Not usable galley.
Garage too small.

I haven't looked since but they don't seem to sell in the UK to well. I take your point though about value for money.

having been on both boats in Genoa 2000 I can try to say the following and compare...
1. no forward seating is true but Ast is more spacious to the 40 Targa between the outside dinette and wetbar
2. yes smallish galley for a 40 feet but still usable /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
3. I think garage space is not much difference I am sure Astondoa 40 was wider not sure if deeper but
I also prefare the Stainless steel work for the Astondoa no bolts showing and thicker railing work
having said all this I also think the 40 Targa is also a better sea boat to the Astondoa, as it carries the old 38/39 Targa hull which IMO is the best Fairline ever did in this size
still in the UK what you said holds true altough I know of a Fairline 40 Targa which can go for similar money to what I saw of the Astondoa in the med...
