Re: Oh .......Yes Rover.

I drove Porsches for years until recently my wife helpfully pointed out that I was 46 years old and more comfortable with elasticated waistbands, and uninformed spectators may conclude I was a chronic self abuser if I continued to drive Porsches.

A bit rich as I have all my own teeth and a full head of hair where as in some trousers she looks like she's got quite an arse. However, I took her advice and looked for something a bit more serious. Settled on a DB7 (which wasn't quite what she had in mind, but it showed who wears the trousers even if they are comfort fit).

It was the biggest waste of money in a life dedicated to p*ssing money away. I needed a carrier bag to store all the bits that kept dropping off, the driver's side window dropped down into the door three times and the door mirror fell off twice. And you try standing by the side of the road with a smouldering, gimpy DB7 and see how much sympathy you elicit. Feck all is how much.

Unfortunately options fast shutting down now, can't go back to a Porsche and wife points to DB7 with the annoying "told you so" look that so often preceeds fatal stabbings. Think a Bentley summons.

Re: Oh .......Yes Rover.

LOL bumpy.

I'd say you need a nice Merc E-Class estate. Biggish motor, with biscuit trim?

Re: MG SV

If they were going to make another MG sports car, it should have been pitched in TVR territory - a rear wheel drive coupe or convertible with a 250-300hp V8 at about £40k might actually get a few punters into the showroom. Heaven knows, they need them

Thats pretty much what they did, only double the price! Been watching too many Stella Artois adverts maybe...??

It's certainly a hell of a concept, buy a TVR (but not as good), but pay for a Porsche 911.

It's a winner!!

So that's what you buy when you're getting on a bit is it? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: MG SV

Were a funny nation, we moan that Rover are to old fashioned, too slow, no flare. So thay take-over an Itailian super car builder, design a state of the art Italian styled and built car, carbon fibre composit body shell, race track ready with full FIA cage built in, V8 from the top American engine tuners, they only painted it at Longbridge.
What do we do moan again.
Has anyone tried a road test on one ?

Why spend all that on a 'mass produced' model. You could be driving anything! Now in the olden dates,BB(before boating) we drove an AC Cobra, now thats a real car....! Okay so you had to take the wing off to change the battery, servocing required a mortgage extension, and maybe it was a tad heavy on the steering- no power assist. But that was a real car with grunt and class and design...

Re: Oh .......Yes Rover.

possibly! Do the really desperate cases buy the very cheapest available 12cyl ferrari and then bang on about how fab they are despite getting slighted on the telly?

Re: Oh .......Yes Rover.

I guess they do. Actually there's not much in it between the 2 production 12 cyl 'raris. The Enzo does make either seem cheap though.

Anyway, I had you down as more of a pink Porsche kinda guy /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: MG SV

Road Test...no way, why waste the salesman's time?

It could be the best car in the workd under the skin, but that skin is just so bloody ugly so I have no intention of ever buying one.

I am not one of these tyre kickers who goes on test drives "to see what it's like", I will only go to test a car if I actually want to buy one.

Basically, I don't dislike it because it's a Rover. I dislike it because it is, quite simply, an eyesore.

Re: MG SV

yep, agreed it's not cos it's a rover. I have a reasonablee degree of faith in uk carbuying taste axshully. Even cars from hitherto quite dull manufactuers get room to sell and be sexy/desirable too - Hyundai Coupe frexample, and latest model too.

But at elevated loot, a motor needs to be a stylish ad complete item, and exude something a bit more than a spending frenzy from the back pages of Custom Car...

Re: MG SV

I think it looks rather nice. Not sure if I was ever fortunate enough to be in the market for an 80k car I'd buy one tho

Re: MG SV

Interesting - yes. Sporty in a Max Power kinda way - yes. But £80K? For that kinda dosh you could buy a 911 C4, E55 AMG or RS6 and have plenty of change.

Re: MG SV

See what I mean about the diddy looking wheels? They might be 20 inches, but they look tiny.

I have to say it's each to their own, but for £80k you can get soemthing an awful lot better looking and just as fast.

It is a pretty big car though, so you do get a lot of metal (or carbon fibre) for your money.

Or you could just get a bigger boat instead. I suspect that someone who buys this would also like a Botnia Targa.

<hr width=100% size=1>

Re: MG SV

Botnia Targa is go anywhere, fast, in any conditions, even though plug ugly. Hardly the ethos of this car. I would expect Botnia fans to be looking at the Cayenne
