When I am in the house I have rented in Cape Coral next Tuesday for a three week vacation, should I sit in the Hurricane Sundeck 21 as I lower it into the water on the hydraulic pontoon? Or should I stand on the side, by the pool and Jacuzzi? Vexing question which has me worried.

We stayed in a similar place a couple of years back. You on the canals or the river? Had a 30ft Searay on one of those boat docks. Fantastic place to go cruising but keep to the channels! and don't go outside without some kind of mosquito repellent! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep, we're on the Canals. I've never heard of a Hurricane either but knowing the Americans, I sure it's going to be "adequate".
We've stayed there before but always hired a boat for a few days or so. This one comes with the house "free". It's free on the basis that if you use it and something goes wrong, you can't sue.
It is a great place and just for a few weeks, we can play at the lifestyle....
Best bit is going to one of the restaurants and having the services of a boat valet.. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

"Bowrider" and "deckboat" are considered different types here in the colonies. Back in the days of old the first deckboats were pontoon decks placed on top of a cutdown hull with shallow deadrise. These days the deckboats have become much more stylish, making them harder to distinguish from bowriders. As you may be able to tell from that Hurricane link these deckboats typically have a broad bow and the helm is shifted a bit aft from where it would be on a bowrider. All that to give a bow cockpit roughly the same size as the main cockpit. Hurricane is the leading builder here for deckboats with outboard power and also I/O in the smaller sizes. The bigger I/O deckboat market is dominated by Sea Ray. Here is a link to a report showing the larger I/O deckboats -

Excellent..thanks for the info. I think the one that comes with the house has an inboard 150hp which sounds quite acceptable. Now all we have to hope is that the boat is the only Hurricane around the place /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Er, good to hear you will get to enjoy a Hurricane (boaty variety). But "inboard" and "150" don't go together. Here in The States we have the 135 4cyl inboard and 190 6cyl. No inboard in between. If it's really a 150 then it is almost certainly an outboard (or a 190 6cyl in a really bad state of tune).

I've looked again, and you're right...it's an outboard. That is quite a big outboard...I presume there's no worries about top speed...??

Edited to say that I've just looked at the performance figures above.... speed obviously isn't a problem....
