As a Sailor,I cant understand

DeeGee
I might be based here on the Medway but I'm a Ramsgate man through and through.
I would admit that I have partaken of the odd cruise to Stangate or Q'boro but most of my cruising is to foriegn parts like Ramsgate, Bradwell, Brighton.
I have been known to go to EEC ports like Oostende, Niewpoort, Calais, even went to Boulogne once<s>

BUT, my main claim to fame was cruising to the Solent, didn't like it much, to full of racers, rather like the motorist's version of trying to cruise on the M25.

BTW, whats this "belt up to" mean, the whole idea of this thread is saying you don't "belt" anywhere<s>

Nor me, when cruising I'd say we motor/sail more than we sail, to maintain schedules.

There is however a real satisfaction in persevering and completing a passage under sail.

I'd have to agree with OldSaltOz.

It would depend to a large extent where you are based, but in the absence of significant interestng cruising destinations racing you sailing boat, regardless of make and size is a good idea. It gives reason for leaving the harbour, practice at doing all aspect of sailing a boat, a reasonable measure of your improvement (or not) in boat handling and friends from a whole range of backgrounds and boats who are all in the same position as you. It's a great way of meeting people within a yacht club and ultimately becoming a part of the club in a way which would be difficult if you were to "cruise" about on your own.

Of couse it's nice to win the odd series too /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

Regards, Jeff.
