'Arthritis'

Was told I had early arthritus in both hips about ten years ago and started taking Glocosamine and that has kept me reasonably OK up till now, I am now waiting for an appointment with the consultant about replacements so you can put of the inevitable for a bit

Looks like becoming a sad old gits sorry for ourselves thread. :(

Some 15 years ago when teaching in the Meddy one of the family's has a teenage boy with Arthritis. He was not in a good way, we stopped for "anchoring practice" (a swim).

He asked if I cannot get up this ladder can you get me back onboard?

I said yes but it will hurt, I was going to explain how he just said "fine" and jumped in .

It took him a little whilst but he mastered the ladder.

He was inspiring, in pain but nothing was going to stop him :o

That wasn't at all the intent.

However, now we're on the subject, I have the option of a £500+ vibratory device bought from an ardent salesman in a tent at the SIBS - or a complete knee replacement on the NHS for free by a renowned surgeon.

The one claims that his device will cure the osteoarthitic condyles and reverse the degeneration 'within weeks', while the other reckons I'll be doing a lot of reading this winter, but then be good for 10-15 years.

I've got a ton and a half of dried logs to split and stack, a door to trim and hang, a roof to clear of moss, several hefty tasks to complete on the laid-up boat, a kitchen to fit and some flooring to lay. That's before I get to SWMBO's list....

Decisions, decisions.... :D

Well I have severe Osteo-Arthritis and have had it for over 10 years. I have had one Total Hip replacement and now the other hip needs doing. My right shoulder gives me gip as do my hands now and then.= We now have our lovely home a Catamaran for sale as it is just too painfull for me anymore. I am an ex Military man and put it all down to the ardous life that I led in my younger years.
Naturally I take the pain killers and anti-inflamatory drugs when it gets too painfull.

Just caught sight of this thread, my kids have been telling me to face it, what with age & arthritis and being an almost full-time carer apart from 8 hrs per week, time to pack it in.
Today went in the inflatable to the boat to do a job or two, came back to the slipway, couldn't hop out, knees gave out, ended up in the 'oggin and being hauled out - almost dried out! Looks like lone visits are out now - a bitter pill to swallow!

Well at least I am 82, really got little to grumble about when i read of other's problems, but find it hard to start on a downward slope. Always had forward plans till now!

Arthritis

I see Glucosamine already mentioned. When we took the other old dog in the household to the vet the Glucosamine prescribed made an improvement. My wife and I then started taking the human version for ourselves of Glucosamine & Marine Chondroitin available from Healthspan. We are of the opinion that we are benefiting from these supplements. Also would recommend the glossy coat tablets.
