Arrogant Sailors

As Brendan said.....again! Yes but you get these people in both camps. In actual fact you'll get it in all walks of life. Live and let live I say. If they want to be grumpy uptight twats thats fine. Theres plenty out and about that aren't.

scientific evidence

far too many sensible and well-balanced replies here.

The fact is that motorboating at increased speed makes you proportionally more and more lightheaded and bewildered, whereas the additives in yacht varnish attack the nervous system, again in proportion to exposure. Thus modern yachties with swift sailing boats that have only beeen lightly spray-varnished inside are very even tempered, and get on very well with happy-go lucky types such as BrendanS, and dinghy sailors even more so.

Ok Guys,

From my perspective and personal experience as both a raggie and stinkie, I have come across this general arrogance, from both sides, but more so from raggies than from stinkies... not just in the water but on land too! It is much more prevalent it seems in UK waters..

I posted on both forums not as a Troll(had to look that one up) but to get feedback from both sides.. obviously each side protects their own on here...... We are all boaters so whats the deal?

Now I'm used to the SA references and slurrs...... spitting image, dull mentality etc etc so no sweat....

I guess this is a British Class thing... its a shame, coz we all have a common interest...

Oh and Capt courageous ....... I rather like it here so I think I'll stay.. but thanx for the suggestion.

I think both forums treated you pretty much the same, which doesn't really support your "each side protects their own on here" idea.

It's a bit like trying to put it down to a "British Class thing" - thats long gone (and probably why there are so many problems today but that's a different story).

Perhaps you are mistaking a "general arrogance" for something less general and more specific that you personally are experiencing more than others for some reason.

If you'd tried to look up the opposing arguments, and all the trolls over the years, you'd would have expected this response.

So, either you are trolling, or are very stupid indeed.
QED
Not sure why I'm responding, but hate to see raggies vs stinkies descend into the pits into which you are trying to .........you are of course correct, next time I'm out, will serve up a huge wash at close quarters to nearest raggie, just to upset them

Being a stupid, illiterate, prat, I couldn't possibly rise to your level of, lucid, intelligent, well thought out responses Brendan....

I'll just have to conceed that it must just be me after all and that being all of the above, I guess I cause the problem and then am too dense to realise it.

You've responded so many times(and with so many posts) on both sides, I expect you must be super intelligent.. Maybe we should go on that cruise together and you and I can share a cabin... I might learn something from you.

A sail boat dosent leave a tidal wave in its wake, its also quite and dosent smell.
And its is ecologicaly freindly using green energy.
In fact when i woke up this morning i wished boats would be limmited to one engine of maximum 72HP. And jet bikes banned totaly. I also believe sailboats mostly use PCs!

...that I find so many raggies in the UK, (yes mainly the UK) arrogant, rude, inconsiderate and with the belief that they are gods chosen few

Well you may turn out to be correct because it seems that a similar attitude has just cost them the current International 14 World Championship. Seems the two UK boats were using some team tactics against the Oz boat in the last race putting it in a place denying it the championship. Protest committee has advanced the Oz boat to a position in that race such that it took the championship.

It's just another one of those 'great divide' issues. It's got b****r all to do with being a Raggie or Stinkie. it's just a reaction on the part of PC users to the endless 'PCs are crap' rant from Mac users but I think I won't go there today.

I tend to agree with others on here that this debate can, and will go on indefinately- I too have been brought up with sailing and have only recently switched to MOBOs. I always wave to other boaters whether they be saily or stinkie and most of the time get a positive response.

One thing that I have learnt so far in my relatively short career is that as other forum members have said- many people today have a defensive attitude towards others which is a shame. I have ended up working in project management and spend a lot of time on site. Being only 29 I am often confronted with older, more experienced workers who initially are dismissive and rude as they see me as arrogant and a possible threat who thinks he knows it all. My response to this is to make the effort to talk to people and assure them that I dont know it all and am keen to learn from them and happy to help. This is all a bit long winded I know- but what it basically boils down to is by talking to other people as equals you would be suprised at how much you can have in common and how willing people will become to help/talk to you in the future. I now have a great number of friends and contacts who initially were very stand offish! There will always be a few in both camps who want to cause trouble- but I believe that a bit more effort/understnding in the marina from both parties could go a long way........
