Thanks 😁 I watched some of these videos a while ago. I remember thinking Why would anybody do this? The guy seemed so fed up....But we change opinions over the years I guess. We always used to charter in hot countries and last time in Antigua the heat was too much for me.
I loved the sound of Dylan's voice on the radio when I was a youth. His early videos were a delight, but then he had his 'Wikipedia moment'*. After starting his epic task of documenting the coast of This Sceptred Isle (perhaps today This Septic Isle would be a better description after what the water companies have dumped tones of raw sewage in the seas) threw a hissy fit, failed to understand Scottish history then demanded cash.

*A Wikipedia Moment is when an individual or organisation moves from lets do his great project for free to we need your cash.

Well there is another chap who is doing a short circumnavigation as we speak. The bumbling sailor. Making it look far to easy. I’m no fan but he’s doing well.

Why does anyone do anything. Personal challenges, followed by some financial reward. The bumbling sailor has been given a year of free berthing if he visits all eleven marinas owned by 1 company. So he has a real financial insentive.

I like the bumbling sailor, I don't think he is as bumbling as he makes out

when I first watched him I knew he was no fool. Clever chap. That my positive spin.
I do t tend to support or respect those that I perceive to be freeloaders. Free training in return for videos not done. Free boats. Moaning about no money no job no nothing.
Work hurts no man. You have to work at passing dayskipper. It does not just happen by getting a free ticket.
It’s a mad mad world but he’s doing a good job. One of those people in life who easily can succeed when they choose too.

I used to be based in Shetland then Orkney. Every time I changed boats the replacement was in the south of England. My first delivery trip was via the North Sea, all the others, both ways, on the west coast as I much preferred that route in terms of all weather harbours and far more interesting. I was doing delivery trips so only stopped for fuel, necessary rests, and avoiding adverse weather. Its no big deal and I have done the trips with crew and single handed. One summer we did Orkney, Shetland, St Kilda, Brixham for a classic yacht rally, back to Orkney with a somewhat bigger boat than yours and crew.

However, given three months and starting from Milford Haven my choice would be to head north and cruise the west coast (as others have said). I think you may find that much more enjoyable and interesting with a number of options depending on weather. Sailing around England and Wales via the Caledonian Canal (though have enjoyed all my transits of the canal itself) could become a "delivery trip slog" if time starts to run short. If the weather and the inclination takes you a circumnavigation of the top of Scotland via Orkney and back SW through the Caledonian is a possibility with the canal giving a pleasant break from the interesting tides through the Orkney islands. The canal could also be a trip for none sailing friends/family to join.

Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it.

Hello Steve.
First of all, thanks for saying that I'm no fool, I often question that about myself and come up with a different answer 😂
I know you might think, from the outside, that I'm a freeloader and am scared of work. This isn't the case. I've spent me entire life at work until 2018 when a medical issue lost me my hgv licence, my job, my car, and my home. My brain chemistry was altered by what happened and admittedly now I struggle to focus on things long term. I class YouTube as a job, it takes a lot of work. Unfortunately it doesn't pay well, about £400pcm. That's why I've taken on deals and things to try and get by.
Yes, I know I moan a lot. But that's real life. Sometimes I feel like crap, sometimes I hate boats, sometimes I wish I'd stayed in my old job and had money in the bank.
But I was sick of it, the whole rat race.
So, you're right, I've given people an option to help me out if they want to. But nobody has to, the videos are basically free to watch and I make them for effectively £3 an hour or less.
I just want to spend what limited time we have on this planet doing something that I actually want to do. I've no interest in being rich or having a fancy yacht. I just want to get by and get paid for what I do. It'll work or it won't 🤷.
It's difficult sometimes to gauge tone from text alone so I want to clarify that nothing I've said should be taken with a negative tone or as some kind of attack on your opinion. Like always, I'm just waffling on! 😂

Have a great day.

Tery.

Hi Bumbling

I've watched your videos since about the time you tried to raffle that little Contessa. Saw you this week meeting the OYZ boys in their video when they visited Weymouth back in June.

Keep on keeping on, your videos are ace.

Thank you.

Hi Terry,
Hey you’re doing a great job. Your always get critics when you open up on the interweb. I tend to take the view most people in this country have little to moan about. Of course that does not take in to account many people who have illnesses or family or friends with medical problems, disabilities and such like that get little support in what is an affluent country.
I think it does us all good to look further afield and get a reality check on how dam lucky we are in this country as a whole. I’ve had my own challenges in life on a very small scale like any other being!!!. Now at a mere 61; I am lucky having two new hips(yes free) and go off and do a 15 hr shift 5 days a week, and the reality is I’ve never been more content or happy. I’ve a few friends that have little to do and struggle, so I tend to believe rightly or wrongly in my little bubble having something to occupy one’s mind is very much a positive to wellbeing. I’m sure your sailing experience is having the same positive impact and I wish you well. Enjoy your trip, it can be so rewarding in many different ways.

Best wishes.

Agree, I think Bumbling Sailor is an inspirational channel with a fairly British outlook and it shows that if you go out into the world and are nice to people then people are generally nice to you in return. Keep up the good work and stay away from forums, they'll just get you down and keep you indoors

Creating YouTube content like that IS hard work.

I must admit I was intrigued by the Bumbling Sailor channel early, but when it looked like turning into an unrealistic rebuild channel (when the first boat had clear problems, but a lot of the videos seemed like discussion of piling more ambitious changes on top) I switched off. Seems a lot happened after that.

I have watched a few bits more recently and quite liked what I saw of the current cruising segments, which are more relatable to the average British cruising experience than most things I see on YouTube. But I have little time to watch things in.
