Arles, Rhone - stopping?

Sorry, we missed you at Ps L. Left there tues morning to lock out 6.20am. River fine tues, mostly 1k against us, 2 in narrow bit, took 5 hours at 5k over the ground. Went past Arles then into Petit Rhone. No sign of visitors mooring, though there is a smart quay along west bank between opp town. Not sure if you could tie up there, prob not.

We had a night tied to a bush at Galician, lovely and quiet and a few days in Aigues Mortes.....37E for us at 12M.

Then all the way along R a Sete canal to Marseillan. Its been blowing a gale all day from NW. We are fine, in port, but it was hell to cycle into! We are into the Midi tomorrow.

Have a great trip!

Aigues Mortes mooring

Yes, Aigues Mortes must be seen/visited, but pricey.
We're in Buzet-sur-Baise tonight . . beautiful wines, excellent port de plaisance (and vice versa) . . 4€ (first place we've had to pay, for 4 nights)
[see my new separate thread about the Midi]

thanks Ional for all that. Plan to catch the early lock out of P St. L. - then off we go!
.

Good news on the current - was expecting more!

You know what - still tempted to take the Petit Rhone/Canal du Midi/Lat de Garonne - loved it when we came down! you can't change a plan if you don't have one!!!!!

Only snag is - need to decide soon - otherwise mast leaves on Wednesday for Le Havre and then commited. (another reason to carry a mast on deck - retain flexibility)

Glad you survived the wind - we had 60 kts at one stage in mid pm.

Good luck, hope the trip goes well.

Never did meet up :(

60knts! & you are just down the road, didn't register anything like that here in P.Nap :)

Anyway will be good to hear up to date info re Arles.

Ional - and anyone else who could be interested - the 'mooring' on The Petit Rhone is almost beneath the first bridge (a Suspension Bridge ) on the Left Bank - but not that visible. Its certainly no Port de Pleasance, just a pontoon, a little over a mile from the start of the Petit R.
I know its still there I specifically stopped on the road above, looked down and saw it only a few days ago.
But for those travelling between Tarrascon - Port St Louis it could be a refuge to consider if conditions on The Rhone become difficult, or if looking for a stop on The Petit..

well 5 days up to "Les Roches de Condrieu" - this is the first wi-fi we have had since port St Louis!

Just to report back - not able to stop in Arles - the Peniche had 3 boats alongside and therefore unable to take more! Nothing else available - we kept going till Vallabregues which was basic but fine for us! Ours was a berth alongside another boat out into the river, but fine.

Will provide more feedback regarding the rest of the route to date in the next couple of days!!
