We've bought a Van de Stadt 34 currently based at Kalamaki Marina (Attica), this is stage 2 of the plan towards living aboard abroad! Our first trip out to sail her is coming up soon, end of May - unfortunately only for a fortnight this time. Any ideas of places to go that avoid the 'milk run' of charter yachts? We prefer the less touristy and developed places,

It's been 10 years since I was there, but the Argo-saronic gulf was stunning, small villages with few tourists (would recommend learning some Greek as English is not so widely spoken in some of these remoter areas) . The Peloponese ('scuse spelling!), is a very interesting but less touristed area. However, I understand that there is a bit of a mafia operating in Porto Heli, which is why Sunsail pulled out of chartering in the area. I'm sure it's fine for individual boats though.

I was brought up in Greece, been in the UK now for a year. The Argosaronic is beautiful. Mainland Peloponese is full of little places to visit. Nafplion (once the capital of Greece worth a visit), Ermioni, Porto Heli, Ancient Epidavros are relatively peaceful places . The islands of Poros and Aegina are chosen weekend haunts of Athenians as well as being popular tourist resorts and get very busy in the summer. Spetses and Hydra further south less so. In the Northern Cyclades Kea (also known as Tzia), Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Siros and Andros are probably busier but nowhere near as hectic as islands further south such as Mykonos/Paros etc.

thanks v much for your suggestions, however i read the posts after we had returned from greece. Had a great time and are going back in September. Did go to Palaia Epidhavros, also to Kea (accompanied by a fleet of 50+ from the Royal Hellenic Yacht Club.. in a F6) and Kithnos. We hope to explore the mainland (Peliponnisos) next time.
