Argh. Diesel Bug.....in full Tecknecolour.Bad luck and trouble etc

I use a Mann Wk842 instead of the Vetus on the WS 180, if that's any help.

Thank you John,

Looked at crosses and Fleetguard equivalent is FF5156 which gives us filter head with M16 1.5 threaded post.

looks pretty skinny filter according to spec and price for WS 180, the FF5156 is about £6.

If OP can confirm this is his Vetus filter I will dig deeper.

We also have the uption of using Vetus filter and second stage in multi stage filteration, £25 for filter head to take a big FS WXYZ Stratapore filter around £25 a pop, capable of swallowing boulders and mountains of grunge in front of the Vetus unit and you have a robust worry free system.

WK842/2 is cellulose paper , it is not designed to deal with emulsified water.
emulsified water can be caused by additives put into diesel shortly after refining.
emulsified water can also be caused by the action of your diesel pump.

In an ideal world you would add a filter which is designed to remove free water and emulsified water .
Fleetguard stratopore is ideal.
I think Mann also produce some filters which are made of cellulose but have a treated surface
which helps grab some of the emulsified water but not the wk842/2.

If I can stitch a mounting for a Stratopore filter on the 10 mm o.d. copper tubing, I shall do so. Incidently, 1500 hours & ten years nothing but pure diesel from the drain point below the tanks or from either filter.

FWIW, my fuel supplier is very clear that their fuel IS laced it with biocide (KATHON FTP) - it's on the webpage (though, there is a bit of mumbo jumbo on this webpage...). I therefore don't add any more. Also they nicely filter it to 2 microns

JFM,

How can you trust company who cannot even spell fuel properly!

On a more serious note this bulk dosing of fuel is worrying. One of the subjects discussed at at the Marine Fuel Forum was the fact that the microbes which infect fuel are evolving and there is evidence that bulk dosing hightens the risk of resistant strains developing.

In Europe greater likelyhood of added FAME content which is why I suspect biocide is added in bulk, however I question the additional filteration down to 2 microns.. Presence of FAME loosens any existing settled tank debris so use of quality fuel should not allow us to drop our guard.

Interesting reference to sulphur content of fuel suppied, 0.005% absolutely correct, however industry normally refers to this a zero sulphur fuel becase at this very low level accurate measurement is virtually impossible.

Whole piece smacks of being written by company very focussed of duty of care.

As I said, no reason to drop ones guard.
