Perhaps those who've read the question and didn't comment haven't understood the question (puts on tin hat).

Re: Are you satisfied with the management of non tidal Thames?

As always, many boaters make all the fuss and noise of being dissatisfied, make grumbling noises when in locks but when it comes to stepping up to the plate and nailing their flag to the mast, they disappear in a cloud exhaust.

Re: Are you satisfied with the management of non tidal Thames?

Over 370 views but only 11 have ventured to record a simple yes or no answer to a straightforward question..
If over 300 had done so that would be a statistically valid indication of the views of river users and would greatly assist user group representatives.
Or is it, perhaps, an indication that the 370 views actually represent just a handful of forumites viewing multiple times?
Either way, it suggests the forum is of little consequence when it really matters.

From an outsiders point of view.
£200.00 to get the boat from Rochester to Teddington.
A helpful and friendly relaxed welcome on arrival at Teddington.
Pay a not unreasonable amount of money to stay on the Thames for 35ft boat (£90.00) , even compared to a Easy Jet cheapo airflight to just about anywhere.
Bargain priced overnight mooring at Teddington.£7.00 Try parking your car for 24 hours at that price and you will soon find the bailiffs at your front door.
Nice slow cruise all the way up to Hampton Court. A few farthings for fuel and FREE Moorings.
30 secs registering boat on arrival.
Visit Hampton Court. £70.00. Evening meal at local Indian feeding the 5000. Over £150. Plus a bit of food shopping.
Free fill of water after self service at Molesley lock, No delay, no drama quite enjoyable experience actually.
Nice slow cruise to Runnymeade.
Fuel a few Farthings.........
Evening at Italian Resturant .Joined by 6 other RCC boats............A smallish fortune.
Morning spent at Free park and Free splash pool.
Off to Cookham.
Slow cruise to Cookham.Free Mooring.
See above for fuel.
Might have been one lock on self service,Boulters ?, non issue, recall enjoying to assist hire boat with french crew through the routine.
Mooring on meadow due to long term barge/narrowboats on wall.
3 nights at the outrageous :) price of £7.00 per night.
Evening meal at local pub with Broom owner at around £35.00 per head.
Several visits to local shops for refreshments and a little food.
Stand in stunned amazement at local house prices. :)

Return down stream to Lady Lyndsies .
All locks manned .
Visit local shops for refreshments .
Against all local laws have BBQ.
Back to Teddington.Did we pay another £7.00....probably.
Through Richmond and into
St.Kats for two days.
2 nights and power £180.00. Grub for two around another £80.00.
Local shop for refreshments.
Fuel home. £150.00.

Some of the above is fairly accurate, some of it possibly accurate.

At no time was the trip marred by anything that we came across during the visit.
A wonderful place to enjoy and take pleasure in visiting, EA charges are minimal compared to external costs.

I would pay more for my license fee if I thought that EA service would improve but it wouldn't.
Would they cut back the trees that overhang the navigation as is needed below Boulters? would they carry out any dredging? would they force the non license payers to pay? would they do something about the increasing number of liveaboards that mostly never use pump outs? would they at least maintain the current manning levels at locks? etc etc .... I don't think so.

Re: Are you satisfied with the management of non tidal Thames?

My understanding is the trees belong to the land owner not the EA.

If that is the case (as I believe as well), can anyone force the landowner to cut back fallen trees and branches?

AFAIK - no
The riparian landowner is Maidenhead council - why don't you ask them?

If the EA consider the trees to be obstructing navigation and the landowner does not take action then the EA have the power to carry out the work themselves and reclaim the costs from the landowner.
i have asked both RBWM and the EA to take action on several occasions but still no action.

Even if the land is the responsibility of the landowner it is surely the EA who must ensure safety of navigation and impel the riparian to take action. (we live in hope!!).

Definitely dissatisfied. I get the impression the EA is either grossly undermanned (no patrols and shortage of lock keepers) , and/or totally disinterested in enforcing it's own regulations. - perhaps just bone idle and lacking leadership.
The general ambience of the river has declined sharply over the past five years or so, littered with unkempt vessels and poorly maintained navigation.

As the only direct descendant of the Man after whom the saying Nail your colours to the mast is attributed, I'll nail mine.
After a very recent trip to Oxford and being "disappointed" with the number of unlicensed and unnamed boats we saw, no, I'm not happy with the management of the Thames. Why do I pay??? And why do I use pump out when this lot don't.
Tin hat and flak jacket on.
