It does not seem long ago that I was reading threads about clean bottoms and 30 + knots and pictures of spedo's joyously celebrating the top speed at the start of the season.

Well with perhaps only 6 weeks left of the UK season my little 19 footer having been in since late May is now down to 24 knots (From 30) and has dropped about 700 revs because of growth which I actually think has not been so bad this year. I am wondering if it is worth pulling her out and giving the hull a pressure wash and cleaning the stern gear. Other considerations are I have some holiday in this 6 weeks so will be away for some of it. Cost to me is nill, Just time and some effort and the help of a friend.

Any one doing or thinking about the same

Water temp is increasing right through till October, so growth will only speed up. If you are down to 24 knots now I would pull it and clean.

But the OP has lost 6+ knots and there is no cost to getting the boat out and cleaned. I would do it. I had a 30 knot boat become an 8 knots boat in the space of three months one year, just due to fouling. The OP is looking at 4.5 months by the time he is ready to come out. There is a possibility that he will regret not doing it if he plans a weekend on the boat and can't get the thing up on the plane in mid September.

OP asked if anyone thinking of a lift. Not in my case. Probably sensible for him, but I was replying to his question. :)

Good point. Not sure how the OP's question as to whether anyone else is pulling theirs out is going to help him decide, but hey ho.

So in answer to the actual question asked, no, I'm not :D
 
I noticed a marked drop in speed on Sunday when we had a run to the Folly Inn and that was having taken into account full fuel tanks. As we were departing on Tuesday for a few days away, currently in Poole, I had the boat lifted and scrubbed before setting off and I am happy to report that the boat is now performing as she should.
The photo below show growth on underside since annual lift and ant-foul back in May 2017. Boat located on the River Itchen.

wow, that's on 4 month old antifoul?!? Doesn't seem to be doing a very good job. ?

Really difficult to antifoul the sterngear and metal bits. If anyone has found a good solution, they are keeping it to themselves. The good news is that this sort of fouling is not disastrous, and causes a small drop in performance. Unlike the harder fouling of say tube worm casts, which is horrible, and causes a dramatic loss in speed, and hence increase in fuel consumption.
 
I'm getting mine and my business partners out together on Monday Dennis!

At the Brixham rally I could do 33 knots 2 up. Now it's more like 23 knots.

I scraped a load of barnacles off in shallow water but I definitely need new antifoul.

I am also trying some copper powder on a test area to see what, if any, effect it has. I will report back when I have a clean hull and also when I lift out to see results of the copper dust.

That is quite a speed reduction !. Copper dust do you just mix that in with the antifoul ?

Makes me appreciate being on dry stack.. top speed every time it put it in������
 
Dry stack does appeal, however, as I live 4 minutes from the boat I can pop down on a summers evening and tootle up the Hamble for a drink and nibbles, if I was drystacked that involves an element of pre-planning which is never going to happen!

Barnacles now removed from hull, just need to antifoul and then back in for the weekend...
